Chapter 313 - 250: Too Late for Regrets
Chapter 313 - 250: Too Late for Regrets
"Please, I’m begging you, let me go! If I go to jail, my kid’s future will be ruined..." the captain pleaded, actually starting to kowtow.
"I told you, this is pointless. The moment you chose to join the Canglan Society, you should have known you’d be caught by us one day. You should have been well aware of the consequences," Wang Jing said, her tone still unruffled.
...
’I’ll take you down with me.’ Kneeling on the ground with his head lowered, the captain saw that his pleas wouldn’t move Wang Jing. Desperation made him reckless.
"Hm?" Standing at the cockpit door, Wang Jing’s Perception picked up the violent surge of Spiritual Energy Waves from the captain. She knew the man was cornered and about to do something reckless. She shook her head with a hint of resignation.
"Die!"
Erupting with Spiritual Energy, the captain whipped a sharp dagger from his pocket. He leaped up like a rabid dog and lunged at Wang Jing.
Wang Jing’s expression remained unchanged as she sidestepped the captain’s ferocious lunge. The instant he shot past her, she lifted a long leg and drove her knee upward with force.
"Argh...!"
The captain, struck squarely in the stomach, let out a piercing shriek. Wang Jing immediately seized him by the collar.
"You should be able to feel the power gap between us. Why make things harder for yourself?" Wang Jing said quietly, looking at the captain.
Then, she raised her free left hand and clenched it into a fist. A faint, golden Spiritual Light surfaced around it. She then delivered three swift punches to the captain’s stomach.
THUD. THUD. THUD.
The immense force shot through the captain’s body, making his eyes bulge.
If Wang Jing hadn’t stopped at just three punches, a few more would have likely made him vomit blood on the spot.
On the dock, the crew members who had been considering making a move heard their captain’s agonizing screams from the ship. They were scared into trembling, any thought of resistance vanishing from their minds.
They all lowered their heads like ostriches, waiting for the Investigators to cuff them.
The ship fell silent. Wang Jing jumped down from the vessel, holding the captain with his broken ribs.
After landing, she casually tossed the captain onto the ground.
"Aargh..."
The captain, ribs broken, hit the ground and rolled a few times, letting out another agonized cry.
Glancing over the captured Canglan Society members, Wang Jing pulled her phone from her pocket and made a call.
"They’re all in custody. You can bring the transport vehicle over."
After notifying her colleagues waiting in the distance, Wang Jing walked over to a crate of cargo and opened it.
CLICK.
Inside were cartons of cigarettes.
She opened several more crates in succession.
Besides cigarettes, there was other contraband: liquor, luxury goods...
’Looks like this shipment doesn’t contain any of those highly dangerous Spirit Burst Pills,’ Wang Jing muttered to herself, slightly disappointed.
She had hoped to seize at least one Spirit Burst Pill during this operation.
The Superpower Administration Bureau had learned that the Canglan Society developed a dangerous drug called the Spirit Burst Pill.
It was said this drug could drastically increase a Cultivator’s power in a short amount of time.
But once the effects wore off, the side effects were severe...
The researchers at the Spiritual Energy Research Institute were desperate for the Superpower Administration Bureau’s Investigators to confiscate these Spirit Burst Pills from Canglan Society members.
They wanted to study the Spirit Burst Pills, hoping to develop a similar product that could provide a short-term power boost without such severe side effects.
A successful breakthrough would be a major trump card for the Investigators, significantly enhancing their overall combat strength.

WHOOSH...
RUSTLE RUSTLE RUSTLE...
A sudden gust of wind swept through, making the lush trees lining the streets sway gently with a soft rustle.
People milled about on the bustling street as two figures emerged from a nearby restaurant.
Lin Li and Liu Jialin had both enjoyed their dinner tonight.
They had chatted while they ate, with Liu Jialin doing most of the talking and Lin Li listening quietly.
By chatting with the young Investigator from the Superpower Administration Bureau, Lin Li had learned quite a bit about cases involving Cultivators.
Some of the perpetrators were thugs who had awakened Superpowers and, arrogant and unaware of their own limits, believed themselves invincible.
Others were insidious, cunning, and full of tricks. Then there were those who were so comically inept you didn’t know whether to laugh or cry.
Without exception, every last one of these criminals was ultimately brought to justice by the Investigators of the Superpower Administration Bureau.
A select few were executed, while the rest were thrown in prison to serve long sentences, with no hope of freedom anytime soon.
"Well, I’ll see you later. Let’s get dinner again when we’re both free," Liu Jialin said to Lin Li with a cheerful smile, smoothing back the hair the wind had ruffled.
"Okay." Lin Li nodded. He said his goodbyes to Liu Jialin and started walking toward the bike-share station.
"Lin Li, I drove here. Why don’t I give you a ride?" Liu Jialin offered.
"Thanks, but it’s okay. I ate so much, I’m completely stuffed. I want to ride a bike home to help digest it all," Lin Li said, shaking his head and politely declining her offer.
"Alright, then! Be careful on your way home," Liu Jialin said with a smile before heading toward her car.
Just as he was about to unlock a shared bike, Lin Li suddenly remembered something he had forgotten to tell Liu Jialin.
With a single thought, a small ziplock bag appeared in his hand, retrieved from the Mysterious Small Island.
"Liu Jialin, wait a second."
"Hm?"
Hearing Lin Li call out to her, Liu Jialin stopped and turned. "What’s wrong?" she asked, puzzled.
Lin Li walked up to Liu Jialin and held the ziplock bag out to her.
"When I ran into Tie Qiu Heng and his group, one of them was about to take this to fight me to the death.
"He didn’t get the chance, so it ended up with me.
"I meant to give it to you guys last time, but I forgot. Since you treated me to dinner, it’s the perfect time to hand it over."
Liu Jialin took the bag from Lin Li, her eyes falling on the red pill inside.
"I overheard them say it’s called a Spirit Burst Pill. I don’t know exactly what it does.
"But based on their conversation, it sounds pretty dangerous," Lin Li added, recalling the exchange between Liu Ke and Wang Tao as he watched Liu Jialin study the pill.
"You said this is called a Spirit Burst Pill?" Liu Jialin, who had been calm just a moment before, gasped. Her eyes flew wide as she heard Lin Li’s words.
"Yeah. If I remember their conversation correctly, it’s definitely a Spirit Burst Pill. Why? Do you recognize it? Do you know what it does?" Lin Li asked.
"I don’t know much about the Spirit Burst Pill myself, but I’ve heard a colleague mention it.
"She told me it’s an extremely dangerous drug developed by the Canglan Society. Taking it allows a Cultivator’s power to skyrocket," said Liu Jialin.
Hearing that the Spirit Burst Pill could grant a massive power boost, Lin Li asked in confusion, "A huge increase in power sounds like a good thing. Why is it so dangerous?"
Liu Jialin recalled what Wang Jing had told her about the Spirit Burst Pill and explained to Lin Li.
"A huge increase in power is a good thing, but the side effects after the drug wears off are far too severe."
"Oh? Just how severe are they?" Lin Li asked, his curiosity piqued.
