This situation not only makes our breeding system subject to foreign restrictions, but also brings huge challenges to disease prevention and control, which in turn has an adverse impact on the healthy development of my country's entire pig industry.
For example, the African swine fever epidemic that raged some time ago was caused by the imported pigs carrying the virus, which led to the large-scale spread of the plague in the country!
This has undoubtedly dealt a heavy blow to my country's pig farming industry.
In 2018, a terrible African swine fever storm swept across China. In just one year, nearly two-thirds of the provinces were hit by its ravages.
Countless pigs contracted the disease and died. The production capacity of my country's pig farming industry has dropped sharply, almost halved, and the price of pork has soared to as high as 30 yuan per catty!
Therefore, whether considering the overall macro situation, aiming to maintain industry stability and ensure the safety of the national pig industry; or focusing on micro details, striving to maintain pork prices stable so that the people can eat cheap, high-quality and safe meat,
We all urgently need to have a stable supply of pig breeds, and pig breeding work also needs to make major breakthroughs!
And this is exactly the goal that many experts and scholars in the animal husbandry industry of Agricultural University have been working tirelessly for in recent years!
In recent years, the country has attached increasing importance to pig breeding!
With the continuous advancement of the national pig genetic improvement program, the process of localization of introduced breeds has also been significantly accelerated.
As of now, there are 96 national core pig breeding farms in the country, with a breeding population of 15 heads.
Not only that, the country has also established a special breeding pig genetic evaluation center, and set up several breeding pig quality supervision, inspection and testing centers in Wuhan, Guangzhou and other places.
At the same time, a national-level pig breeding center has been selected as the site of the Agricultural University and is being prepared in full swing.
