Chapter 314 The Demon
Chapter 314 The Demon
"Well done." Claire patted her brother's shoulder and forced him up from the ground.
"What?" Kanyon looked confused.
"Huh? I thought you were trying to ease the atmosphere." When Claire picked him up, her hands were stained with vegetable soup, and she wiped it back on her brother.
Kanyon: !!! Who is trying to calm the situation down? He is really angry!
He swung his arms wildly, splashing all the soup on his body onto his brother as an attack, and successfully received a speechless face.
"Why would I support such a man to become king? I swear, besides my father, I am the only one in this place who wants Uncle George to be healthy! At least if he were here, I could still live a good life!"
Kanien swung his weapon while attacking crazily.
"Oh, you dare not say it to my face... Don't throw it away, mom will let you deal with it yourself." Claire hid behind the pillar speechlessly. "What's wrong with Catherine succeeding to the throne? You will be the queen's brother, and then you will be like your father-"
"Stop it! You are the one who is like my father!" Kanien was so angry that his mind became clear. Now his thoughts were extremely clear. "She is the second Queen of Bishop after Zora. You are the queen's beloved elder brother and will inherit your father's title and land in the future. As for me, I am nothing!"
"Oh, so you still care about this." Claire poked her head out from behind the pillar. "Don't worry, dear brother. I am willing to inherit this land with you. Which half of the coastline do you want?"
Kanyon choked. He didn't want to be anywhere in this damn place! He just wanted to be happy and comfortable in Highgarden.
"I, I have important business to do in High Court, very important business!" He spoke righteously, but who knows whether it is true or false.
"Don't always treat yourself as an outsider, Kanyon." Seeing that he didn't care, Claire moved out from behind the pillar, "This is our home. Those magicians and guardians are fighting to protect this land. They are heroes of the Gaia Empire. You must never use their sacrifice as a topic of conversation again. Next time -"
He glanced at his ignorant brother, his eyes carrying a hint of the murderous aura of the battlefield, and said in an extremely serious tone, "I won't forgive you either."
Kanyon swallowed hard at his wolf-like gaze and nodded quickly.
"Okay, I'll let you off today, you unlucky guy."
Claire hugged her brother affectionately, ignoring the fact that his body was covered in dirt. Compared with his strong and tall figure, Canion looked like a skinny dog. "We haven't taken a bath together for many years. Let's go—"
"Wait! Wait! Didn't you just retreat from the first line of defense? How many days have you not washed?" Upon hearing this, Kanien began to struggle frantically, "I will wash myself, I will wash myself--"
However, the little dog had no say and was dragged away by Claire.
……
"Meow--"
When Catherine was sitting in the lonely back garden in winter, she was in a daze. A ginger kitten came silently to her feet and rubbed against her legs.
Catherine lowered her head, looked at the little guy circling between her legs, and asked softly, "Are you lost?"
She reached out and touched its slightly dirty fur, and felt a warmth and softness that comforted her heart.
Perhaps because of her friendly attitude, the kitten was not satisfied with rubbing against her ankles. It took a few steps back and actually jumped directly onto Catherine's legs and was about to lie down.
"Eh? You--" Catherine was a little surprised at its familiarity, but when she saw its dirty nose and paws, she thought that it might just be looking for a warm place to keep warm, so she let it curl up on her legs and continued to stare into the night.
There was a sudden weight on her body, a fur cloak fell off, and someone sat down next to her.
"Would you like a drink? It will warm you up!" Cynthia shook the bottle and was not surprised to see her daughter shaking her head in refusal. She did not insist, and since she did not have to share, she took a big sip from the bottle and sighed in relief.
The most violent beast tide has passed, and the mother and daughter just sit in the empty garden under the night sky, admiring the non-existent beauty as a brief relaxation between the beast tides.
"...I know what kind of king my father wants me to be."
After a long silence, Catherine took the initiative to speak, "The monarch's will represents the will of the country. He doesn't want me to be affected by minor personal emotions, become hesitant and timid, and repeatedly weigh the pros and cons, which will affect the efficiency of decision-making. He hopes that I will be like those wise and decisive kings in history, like a..."
"Like... a man." Catherine whispered, "But I am a woman, mother. I will be sad and heartbroken for the sacrifice of an individual. I cannot abandon my own feelings and only focus on the so-called overall situation, even though I tell myself again and again that there will always be casualties in war. Is this wrong? Is this my shortcoming?"
"Of course this is your strength." Cynthia answered without hesitation. She took a sip of wine and sighed, "If I had known that this damn king had to abandon his humanity to become the king, I would not have supported you to go to Highgarden. What's more... even your father himself can't do this kind of thing!"
She had drunk too much, and her words couldn't help but reveal some of the roughness and recklessness of her youth.
"You're right, Catherine, you are a woman, you were born this way. If you have to become another kind of person to be qualified to lead this group of humans, then there must be something wrong with this country." Cynthia said, looking at the kitten in her arms.
Catherine also looked over. She reached out and touched it, but found that the kitten that looked warm was actually cold to the touch. She screamed in fear, "Mom! It—"
"Don't be afraid." Cynthia said softly, touching the kitten's cold body. "It must have been very hard for it to find me all the way here."
Catherine was still confused.
"We witches cannot actively choose our familiars. Instead, they choose us. From the day you awakened, it has set out on a journey to find you." As Cynthia spoke, a beautiful black cat appeared out of thin air at Cynthia's feet. It climbed onto Catherine's lap and sniffed the motionless little yellow cat.
As soon as its nose touched the body of the little yellow cat, the poor little guy turned into powder, turned around and disappeared in the wind. To Catherine's surprise, a brand new ginger kitten jumped down from mid-air the next moment, and the warm touch returned to Catherine's legs.
"Meow——" Its fur was no longer dirty. Upon closer inspection, one could see faint raccoon patterns hidden under the turmeric fur. It looked like a little tiger. Its four paws were white, as if it was wearing brand new boots, and it looked very energetic.
"It has abandoned its old body. From now on, you will share magic and life with it." Cynthia's heart softened as she watched her familiar sniffing her daughter's kitten curiously.
Her child finally became a real witch.
