Chapter 723: Proposal
Chapter 723: Proposal
After all, considering how these people had attempted to use Silas as a vessel for their own disgusting ambitions, Ivy felt it would almost be disrespectful not to make proper use of them in return.
Since they themselves were vicious monsters, she saw no reason to show mercy.
Soon afterward, the group began cleaning the battlefield thoroughly.
After ensuring everything had been handled properly, Ivy finally returned toward the others and casually praised everyone’s performance.
Meanwhile, far away from the battlefield, Tammy repeatedly attempted to establish contact with Haku and Jerry.
However, no matter how many times she tried, no response ever came back.
As time passed, uneasiness gradually filled her heart.
Finally, Tammy immediately called for an emergency meeting.
Soon afterward, Barrett, Coco, and Nanami all arrived.
The moment they entered and saw Tammy’s unusually grim expression, their expressions changed slightly.
"What happened?" Barrett asked immediately.
Tammy silently clenched her fists before revealing the truth regarding Haku and Jerry’s disappearance.
The moment she finished speaking, both Barrett and Coco’s faces darkened dramatically.
Meanwhile, Nanami remained surprisingly calm.
In fact, his expression almost carried traces of inevitability, as though he had expected this outcome from the beginning.
Unlike Tammy, he had never underestimated Ivy and the others.
Long ago, he had already warned Tammy that there was an enormous risk involved.
Unfortunately, Tammy had been too confident in the superiority of their race and had viewed Ivy’s group as nothing more than fake superior beings, easy to crush.
Seeing the regret beginning to appear on Tammy’s face, Nanami could not help chuckling lightly.
"Even if you regret it now," he remarked calmly, "nothing will change."
Bang!
Coco suddenly slammed her hand heavily against the table.
"We should have joined the attack ourselves," she growled angrily. "There is no way Jerry and Haku could die so easily unless they were trapped somehow."
Barrett immediately nodded in agreement.
However, Nanami merely shook his head slightly after hearing them.
For once, even Tammy silently agreed with Nanami.
She truly had become overconfident, and because of that arrogance, they had now lost two extremely valuable members.
Taking a deep breath, Tammy motioned for Coco and Barrett to calm down.
"Sit," she ordered heavily.
Only after they reluctantly obeyed did she continue speaking.
"Things have already reached this stage," Tammy murmured coldly. "That means we need to change our plans completely."
As she spoke, her gaze shifted toward Nanami.
Nanami nodded slightly before replying, "I still believe it is too early to confront Ivy directly. First, we should create distractions around her. Otherwise, she may reveal another hidden trump card."
Hearing that suggestion, Tammy slowly nodded in agreement.
The very next day, she secretly dispatched several human puppets toward Ivy’s bases to begin causing subtle disturbances.
Meanwhile, entirely unaware of the new schemes forming against them, Ivy had already returned home.
Together with a few close family members and trusted companions, they decided to hold a small celebration party.
Officially, the gathering was supposed to celebrate their recent victory against Haku and Jerry.
However, in reality, there was another hidden reason behind the party.
Felix was planning to propose to Annie.
That was precisely the reason why both Felix and Annie had been strangely absent for most of the preparations earlier.
Long before the party had even begun, Felix had already repeatedly reminded Annie to dress nicely tonight and make sure she was fully prepared.
Every single time he mentioned it, Annie would roll her eyes while pretending to act calm.
"I already told you," she muttered for what felt like the hundredth time, "I am going to say no."
However, despite her confident words, the deep blush spreading across her cheeks betrayed her completely.
Meanwhile, Felix himself was far from calm.
The entire day, he had been so nervous that he almost forgot how to breathe properly.
Once the celebration officially started, the atmosphere inside the base quickly became lively and warm.
Everyone was in an exceptionally good mood after their recent victory. Glasses repeatedly clinked together while people toasted one another enthusiastically.
"For the victory!"
"To surviving another disaster!"
"And for our terrifying boss Ivy!"
The moment Ivy heard that last sentence, she narrowed her eyes dangerously while everyone burst into laughter.
Eventually, as the party reached its middle point, Ivy quietly walked toward Silas and took the camera from his hands with a suspiciously knowing smile.
Silas instantly understood what was about to happen.
Meanwhile, Felix finally gathered enough courage to walk toward Annie.
Tonight, Annie looked unbelievably beautiful.
Unlike many of the other women present, who possessed fair and delicate skin, Annie’s complexion carried a healthy tan that gave her a unique charm.
Normally, because of her sharp features and confident personality, she often appeared somewhat masculine. However, tonight was completely different.
She wore a stunning black dress that hugged her figure perfectly.
The moment Felix stopped in front of her and slowly lowered himself onto one knee, Annie’s breath hitched slightly.
At the same time, Felix himself nearly burst into tears from nervousness.
His younger brother immediately jumped up excitedly and shouted, "Sister, say yes!"
The second those words rang out, everyone else enthusiastically joined in.
"Say yes!"
"Say yes!"
"Say yes!"
The entire room echoed with teasing cheers and laughter.
Annie could not help smiling softly at the scene. Then she slowly extended her hand toward Felix.
Meanwhile, Felix’s heartbeat had become so fast that he genuinely felt as though his heart might leap out of his chest at any second.
Finally, Annie gave him a small nod.
The instant Felix saw that movement, overwhelming excitement exploded inside him.
Without even thinking properly, he immediately stood up, wrapped his arms around Annie tightly, and kissed her cheeks repeatedly.
"Thank you! Thank you!" he blurted out excitedly.
Annie immediately burst into laughter before lightly smacking his shoulder.
"Are you not planning to give me the ring first?" she teased.
Only then did Felix suddenly snap back to reality.
His face instantly turned red from embarrassment as he hurriedly took out the ring box with trembling hands. Carefully, he slid the ring onto Annie’s finger.
However, to his complete shock, Annie suddenly reached into her own pocket and pulled out another ring.
Felix froze completely.
His eyes widened with sparkling disbelief as he stared at her.
Meanwhile, Annie rolled her eyes dramatically before muttering, "What? You really thought I would come empty-handed?"
The moment Felix heard those words, his grin immediately widened so much that he genuinely looked like an old man who had just won the lottery.
He nodded enthusiastically.
"Yes! Yes! Of course!"
The surrounding people instantly burst into louder laughter and applause.
For the entire remainder of the night, neither Felix nor Annie stopped smiling even once.
Meanwhile, Kael and Martha had also already completely accepted the nature of their own relationship.
To everyone around them, they practically already looked like a married couple.
In fact, they were even discussing the possibility of having a child soon while simultaneously taking care of the child already under their protection.
Even Talia had gradually begun seeing someone.
Whenever Ivy thought about that fact, she could not help feeling emotional.
Who could have imagined that during one of the dangerous missions, Talia would end up being rescued by a military officer named Kyle?
Kyle was completely different from the stereotypical image of a rigid military man.
On the battlefield, he was terrifyingly serious and dependable, almost cold enough to intimidate people.
Yet the moment he stepped away from combat, it felt as though his entire personality transformed.
Outside battle, he became playful, charming, and unbelievably good at flirting.
He teased Talia endlessly with such natural precision that even she, despite her usual composure, slowly began falling for him without realizing it.
Eventually, the two of them naturally started spending more and more time together.
Although nothing had officially been announced yet, almost everyone could already tell where their relationship was heading.
Meanwhile, Asher remained single.
Long ago, he had already possessed a girlfriend whom he genuinely loved deeply.
Unfortunately, she had died during the zombie apocalypse.
Since then, Asher never once showed interest in dating again.
Whenever Ivy thought about that, she always found herself slightly surprised.
To a certain extent, Asher and Silas were strangely similar.
Thinking about that comparison, Ivy unconsciously leaned slightly closer toward Silas while everyone else remained distracted by the celebration. Then she quietly asked,
"What if I die someday?"
The moment those words left her mouth, the atmosphere around Silas instantly darkened slightly.
His previously relaxed expression disappeared completely.
However, before he could answer properly, Ivy suddenly noticed the dangerous look in his eyes and immediately realized she had stepped onto a sore point.
Silas narrowed his gaze before speaking coldly,
"You truly seem to want punishment very badly tonight if you are asking questions like that."
The moment Ivy heard those words, she immediately surrendered with both hands raised defensively.
"You are misunderstanding me," she protested quickly. "I was only curious."
Silas merely chuckled softly.
"If you are truly curious," he murmured near her ear, "you should instead be curious about more important things. For example... how long tonight’s activities are going to last."
