Chapter 152: Trapped in the Swamp, Life and Death on the Line
Chapter 152: Trapped in the Swamp, Life and Death on the Line
Thick fog enveloped the Death Swamp, and the cold, damp air was filled with a nauseating smell of corruption. Ren Xiaoyao's face was solemn. He knew that avoiding the abyss trap and choosing to cross this swamp was tantamount to stepping into another abyss.
"Be careful and follow me closely." Ren Xiaoyao whispered and took the lead to step into this dangerous place.
With every step, his feet sank deeper into the mud, making it difficult to move forward. Pharmacist Li accidentally missed a step and half of his body sank into the mud. He cried out in surprise, but fortunately, Master Mo was quick to pull him back.
"What a damn place!" Pharmacist Li was still in shock. He wiped the mud off his face and couldn't help cursing.
"Shh, keep your voice down." Charlene lowered her voice and looked around nervously, "I feel like something is watching us."
As soon as he finished speaking, the calm surface of the water suddenly exploded. A giant python, as thick as a bucket, opened its bloody mouth and pounced towards Xia Lin like lightning! Ren Xiaoyao was quick-witted and pulled Xia Lin behind him. At the same time, he swung his sword in a flash of cold light, and the giant python was cut in two. The smelly blood gushed out, staining the surrounding muddy water red.
"Ah!" Xia Lin was still in shock and collapsed on the ground with a pale face.
"Don't be afraid, I'm here." Ren Xiaoyao helped Xia Lin up and comforted her softly.
However, the dangers were far greater than this. Beneath the calm surface of the water, pairs of cold eyes watched in the dark, waiting for their chance to strike. Suddenly, Master Mo, at the end of the group, let out a scream. Everyone turned to see a massive crocodile, gripping Master Mo's leg tightly and attempting to drag him into the water...
"Master Mo!" Ren Xiaoyao's eyes were bloodshot, and the longsword in his hand turned into a flash of lightning, piercing the crocodile's eyes. The crocodile, in pain, let go of Master Mo, turning and roaring at Ren Xiaoyao. Ren Xiaoyao was calm, dodging the attack sideways and swinging his longsword again, leaving deep wounds on the crocodile's body.
"Xiaoyao, be careful!" Xia Lin exclaimed, but because she was too nervous, her foot slipped and she fell backwards.
"Xia Lin!" Ren Xiaoyao was shocked. He didn't care about the crocodile in front of him. He turned around and pounced on her, hugged Xia Lin's waist and pulled her into his arms.
"Splash!" With a loud bang, a massive crocodile burst out of the water right where the two had just stood, its bloody mouth closing just barely scraping past Xia Lin's toes. Xia Lin was still terrified, her face pale. If Ren Xiaoyao hadn't intervened in time, she would have been dragged under by the crocodile.
"Are you okay?" Ren Xiaoyao asked with concern.
"I'm fine, thank you, Xiaoyao." Xia Lin shook her head, her eyes full of gratitude.
"Be careful!" At this time, Pharmacist Li suddenly exclaimed, and saw a poisonous snake swimming silently towards Master Mo, baring its fangs and biting his arm fiercely.
"Ah!" Master Mo screamed, his face turning black in an instant.
"It's poisonous!" Pharmacist Li's face changed drastically. He quickly took out a bottle of antidote from his arms and gave it to Master Mo.
"Fortunately, I brought the antidote with me, otherwise..." Pharmacist Li said with lingering fear.
Ren Xiaoyao looked at the perilous swamp before him, feeling extremely anxious. They had been struggling in the swamp for several hours, but still could not find a way out.
"This is not a solution. We must find a safe way out as soon as possible." Ren Xiaoyao said in a deep voice.
He looked around, but the thick fog blocked his sight and he couldn't tell the direction at all. At this moment, he suddenly noticed that there seemed to be a piece of relatively dry land in the middle of the swamp not far away.
"Over there!" Ren Xiaoyao pointed at the piece of land and said to everyone, "Let's go over there and take a look!"
"But, that land..." Charlene hesitated, "It looks dangerous."
"There is no other choice now." Ren Xiaoyao's eyes were firm, "Trust me!"
After saying that, he took a deep breath, kicked his feet hard, and shot towards the land like an arrow...
Ren Xiaoyao took a deep breath, pushed his feet hard against the soft mud at the edge of the swamp, and rushed out like a cheetah. As light as a swallow, he jumped continuously between several pieces of driftwood that emerged from the water. Each step was extremely precise, without a splash.
"Follow me!" Ren Xiaoyao's voice echoed in the thick fog, bringing a glimmer of hope to everyone.
Xia Lin followed Ren Xiaoyao closely. She was not as agile as Ren Xiaoyao, so she could only try her best to follow in his footsteps. Even so, she almost fell into the quagmire several times.
Pharmacist Li and Master Mo supported each other as they stumbled forward. Master Mo was weak from the poisoning and relied entirely on Pharmacist Li's herbs to barely support him.
"Be careful!" Ren Xiaoyao suddenly stopped and grabbed Xia Lin who almost stepped on air and fell.
"What's wrong?" Charlene asked in shock.
Ren Xiaoyao didn't answer, but simply pointed ahead. Xia Lin followed his finger and saw that not far ahead of them, the previously calm swamp water suddenly began to churn violently, and a strong smell of blood mixed with a foul odor filled their faces.
"It's a giant swamp python!" Pharmacist Li's face changed drastically and he cried out in shock.
As soon as he finished speaking, a giant python as thick as a bucket and covered with dark green scales suddenly jumped out of the water, opened its bloody mouth, revealing two rows of sharp fangs, and bit towards Master Mo who was closest to it!
"Beast!" Ren Xiaoyao roared angrily, and the long sword in his hand turned into a silver light and stabbed towards the giant python's vital point like lightning.
The giant python felt pain and rolled its huge body in the air, then fell heavily back into the water, splashing huge water.
"Hurry up! It will come again!" Ren Xiaoyao urged. He knew that it would be difficult to defeat this giant swamp python by himself.
No one dared to stop and rushed towards the dry land with all their might.
Just when they thought they were about to escape danger, the sky suddenly became overcast and raindrops as big as beans poured down. The water level in the already muddy swamp began to rise rapidly, and in a blink of an eye, it was submerged up to their calves.
"Oh no! It's a rainstorm!" Charlene exclaimed. "If this continues, we'll drown!"
Ren Xiaoyao looked around. Thick fog, heavy rain, and rising turbid swamp water surrounded them, as if they were in a desperate situation.
"This way!" Ren Xiaoyao's gaze fell on a tall tree...
"This way!" Ren Xiaoyao's gaze fell on a tall tree, the only place nearby where he could temporarily take refuge. Without giving it any time to think, he picked up Xia Lin and, with a tap of his toes, leaped onto the tree trunk like a nimble monkey.
"Hurry, come up!" Ren Xiaoyao shouted at Master Mo and Pharmacist Li who were still struggling in the mud.
Pharmacist Li and Master Mo didn't dare to delay. They supported each other and moved towards the tree, taking one step forward and one step back. Ren Xiaoyao lowered a vine from the tree and pulled them up one by one.
The four of them temporarily found a chance to catch their breath on this tall tree. The rain slid down the leaves, forming curtains of water that isolated them from the outside world.
"Fortunately, we have this tree, otherwise we would really be eaten by the fish." Pharmacist Li said with lingering fear, wiping the sweat from his forehead.
"Don't be too happy too soon. This swamp is full of dangers. We don't know how long we will be trapped here..." Master Mo hadn't finished speaking when suddenly, a cold breath came from above his head, making people shudder.
Ren Xiaoyao's heart rang with alarm. He suddenly looked up and saw a massive python coiled on a thick branch! Its body was covered in dark green scales, blending seamlessly into the surroundings. Without careful observation, it would be difficult to detect. At this moment, the giant python was spitting out scarlet tongues, its cold vertical pupils staring at them intently, as if looking at a group of lambs to be slaughtered.
"Hiss—" The giant python opened its bloody mouth and let out a horrifying hiss. A foul smell hit them in the face. The next second, it suddenly shot down from the branch and pounced towards them like lightning!
"Be careful!" Ren Xiaoyao's pupils suddenly shrank. He pushed Xia Lin away and drew the long sword at his waist, slashing fiercely at the giant python's head.
