Chapter 283 Huang Ling's Somewhat Unusual Behavior
Chapter 283 Huang Ling's Somewhat Unusual Behavior
After the college entrance examination, Zhuang Chaoying went to work for another week as usual.
He stood on the podium of Class 1, Grade 11, looking at the students below, preparing to give them some final instructions on the holiday arrangements.
"Students, summer vacation is just around the corner, and I'm sure you're all very excited."
However, before summer vacation, the teacher has three things to say that I must solemnly tell you, and you must keep them firmly in mind.
"The first point, though it may seem like a cliché, is that safety is always of paramount importance. Always be mindful of fire and electrical safety, and especially avoid swimming in small streams or ditches."
Do you all remember that tragic example from Class 3 of Grade 11?
Three male students went swimming together. One of them lost his flip-flop in the water. In the struggle to retrieve it, they pulled on each other, and tragedy struck; all three drowned. Life is precious and should never be taken lightly.
"My second point is a request to everyone. Summer vacation is a great time to adjust your mind and body, so be sure to balance work and rest. During the vacation, you can sleep in and relax as much as you like, but don't forget that when school starts, you will be senior high school students. You all know what senior year means, right? This is a very crucial year in your lives, and every minute and every second is extremely precious. I hope you can plan your vacation time well and not waste this precious time."
Zhuang Chaoying paused slightly, her gaze slowly sweeping across the classroom, trying to make eye contact with each student.
Seeing Lin Dongzhe, the kid even winked at him.
"Thirdly, everyone should choose a subject they are good at and concentrate their efforts on it, striving to improve their scores in that subject. Everyone has their own strengths; by maximizing those strengths, you will have a better chance of success in the college entrance examination."
Following that, Zhuang Chaoying spoke in more formal terms, such as the arrangement of holiday homework, precautions for communication between home and school, and so on, explaining everything in detail.
This time, Lin Dongzhe ended up sitting next to Xiaoting.
Taking advantage of Ms. Zhuang's inattention, he leaned his head slightly closer to Xiaoting and muttered softly, "Xiaoting, Ms. Zhuang is so talkative, I'm getting so sleepy."
Xiaoting rolled her eyes at him, reached out and lightly pinched his arm, lowering her voice, "Are you more alert now? Still sleepy?"
Lin Dongzhe was startled and subconsciously touched the arm that Xiaoting had pinched.
His lips curled up uncontrollably, and although his expression was slightly grimacing from the pinch, he felt as happy as if he had eaten honey.
"I'm not sleepy anymore, I'm not sleepy anymore," he replied hastily.
Xiaoting looked at her father on the podium and decided that she would focus on math this summer and try to improve her score as her father had said.
If Dongzhe knew what Xiaoting was thinking, he would definitely gape in disbelief and think to himself: You're already number one in the grade, how much higher do you want to go? Are you trying to reach for the heavens?
As the school bell rang crisply, the students cheered and greeted their teachers. "Goodbye, teacher!"
Zhuang Chaoying stood on the podium, watching the students' little actions below with perfect clarity.
Lin Dongzhe's little schemes naturally did not escape his notice.
Fortunately, the two children haven't confessed their feelings yet, and he secretly breathed a sigh of relief.
After the children are dismissed from school, the teachers still can't rest. They have to hold another meeting to summarize the work of the semester before they can go home.
During the meeting, the teachers spoke one after another, sharing their teaching experiences and discussing student issues. Zhuang Chaoying also participated earnestly. By the time the meeting ended, more than an hour had passed.
By the time he got home, it was already past eight o'clock in the evening.
Pushing the car into the yard, I looked through the window and saw Song Ying, Huang Ling, and the four children inside, watching TV and eating popsicles.
I washed my hands in the sink.
Hearing the commotion in the yard, Huang Ling got up and came out. "Chaoying, you're back! Eat in the yard, I'll get you some food."
"Okay." Zhuang Chaoying moved a chair from beside the door and sat down at the table.
A moment later, Huang Ling pushed open the screen door and came over carrying the food.
A bowl of rice and a bowl of vegetables were placed in front of Zhuang Chaoying.
Zhuang Chaoying glanced at it and knew that Ah Ling had specially reserved it for him. "Thank you, wife."
He was shoveling rice into his mouth when he saw Huang Ling take out a palm-leaf fan, a bottle of ice-cold beer, and two clean cups.
"Let's have a drink together."
A look of surprise flashed in Zhuang Chaoying's eyes. She reached out and took the beer, skillfully using chopsticks to open the lid.
With a soft "bang," the bottle cap popped open.
He filled both glasses with beer.
Huang Ling sat down next to him, picked up her wine glass, and gently clinked it against Zhuang Chaoying's glass.
Zhuang Chaoying tilted her head back and downed the wine in her glass. It was ice-cold and refreshing.
Out of the corner of his eye, he glanced at Ah Ling and instantly sensed that something was wrong. Something was very wrong. Ah Ling seemed different.
He quickly picked up a piece of cured meat and held it to Ah Ling's lips. "Have some food to calm your alcohol fumes."
Huang Ling smiled and opened her mouth to take the cured meat.
Zhuang Chaoying put down her chopsticks. "Ah Ling, what's wrong?"
Huang Ling swallowed the meat in her mouth. "Chao Ying, let Mom and Dad come over this holiday, I miss them."
Upon hearing this, Zhuang Chaoying was taken aback at first, but then relaxed and poured herself another glass of wine.
He thought it was something extremely serious, and immediately breathed a sigh of relief.
Ah Ling's appearance just now, the seriousness in her expression, really startled him. Fortunately, it didn't cause any trouble that could lead to someone's death.
Ah Ling is already 42 years old. If she were to have another child, she would be considered an advanced maternal age mother, which would be very risky. We can't let her have another child.
I never dare to run out of my own family planning supplies.
“I thought it was something serious. I’m on holiday starting tomorrow too. Should I go to Changcheng to pick up my parents?”
“My parents are only in their sixties and in good health. They can come by themselves without any problem. I’m just thinking that since you’re the head of the family, I still need to discuss things with you.”
Zhuang Chaoying quickly finished a bowl of rice, took a sip of wine, and put down her chopsticks. "Ah Ling, why are you acting so strangely today? There must be something going on. Don't hide it from me."
Huang Ling hesitated for a moment, but still spoke her mind. "Chao Ying, Song Ying and I discussed it today. What do you think about moving to the new courtyard? It's bigger there, and the children can have their own rooms. Maybe we should just give up this house."
Zhuang Chaoying looked into her eyes. "What are you thinking? Tell me honestly."
“Song Ying’s family only has Dong Zhe, so it doesn’t matter whether she moves or not. Our family has Xiao Ting and Peng Fei, so I think it would be good for us to move there too, since the two families live right across the street.”
After saying that, she glanced into the room to make sure the children weren't paying attention, then moved her chair closer to Chaoying and lowered her voice. "Next semester will be senior year, and I'm worried that Xiaoting and Dongzhe... might start dating."
As Huang Ling spoke, she couldn't help but laugh. She couldn't quite imagine Dong Zhe and Xiao Ting hanging out with their friends.
Zhuang Chaoying looked at her and laughed along.
"Chaoying, you're still laughing at me? Aren't you afraid?" Huang Ling pretended to be angry and gently patted Zhuang Chaoying's arm.
Zhuang Chaoying took the fan from her hand and fanned herself gently. "What's there to be afraid of? The children know what they're doing, so let's not worry unnecessarily."
At this moment, Song Ying led Dong Zhe and Tu Nan out of the house. "Sister Ling, the TV program is over, we're going back now. You and Teacher Zhuang should also get some rest."
Zhuang Chaoying smiled and nodded, replying politely, "Okay, Xiao Song, you should get some rest too."
Xiaoting, Pengfei, and Dongzhe came out carrying basins to wash up.
Zhuang Chaoying gave Huang Ling a look, and the two of them, in perfect unison, carried bowls and wine glasses to the kitchen.
In the backyard, Zhuang Chaoying was washing dishes, while A-Ling stood by the door, glancing at Zhuang Chaoying from time to time.
"Ah Ling, just pretend you don't know. They're still clueless right now. They haven't broken through that barrier yet, so it's best for us adults not to remind them. It's fine as it is now."
Huang Ling pouted and glared at him. "Forget it, I think you just can't bear to part with this house, you miser."
Zhuang Chaoying smiled and shook her head.
What was he doing all this for? Wasn't it to cultivate a relationship between Xiaoting and Dongzhe? Did he have it easy? Waaah.
I have to keep an eye on them so they don't cross the line, and also make sure it doesn't affect their academic performance. It's tough.
After washing the dishes, Zhuang Chaoying plugged in the water heater in the bathroom. This water heater was a prototype that Lin Gong brought back from the factory. After the water heater was officially launched on the market, their family also started using a water heater for showering. Except for December and January when it was too cold to use, it was very convenient to use at other times.
"Ah Ling, the water's boiling. Do you want me to scrub your back?"
"do not want!"
