Chapter 823 - Han Wu Attacks
Chapter 823 - Han Wu Attacks
At the site of the divine war, both factions remained locked in combat. However, the Wisdom Faction had lost the advantages it once held. News of Han Wu’s death had spread across the battlefield. Many students contacted Xu Hai to verify whether the report was true.
Naturally, Xu Hai knew it was false, but Han Wu had asked him to keep the matter secret. Unable to reveal the truth, Xu Hai answered every inquiry with silence. The students took that silence as confirmation that Han Wu had truly fallen. The loss of such a powerful combatant devastated the morale of the Wisdom Faction’s students.
The Slaughter Faction seized the opportunity and captured several strongholds, reclaiming the upper hand.
The Butcher had even started planning a final offensive with his commanders and strongest units. He intended to storm the Wisdom Faction’s command post in one decisive strike.
While the Slaughter Faction’s leadership discussed tactics, an urgent report arrived from the front lines.
A Major God ran into the command room. “Trouble!”
The Butcher glared at him. He considered the behavior disrespectful. Still, he had been trying to restrain his violent tendencies, so he suppressed his irritation and told the Major God to give his report.
“Lord Slaughter, the Wisdom Faction has launched an attack!”
“They attacked? They’re marching into their own graves, then. Isn’t that good news?”
“They’re just a bunch of students. What trouble could they possibly cause? Let them come. It saves us the effort of hunting them down.”
“Even if the Wisdom God King personally led the charge, none of them would leave alive.”
The Major Gods of the Slaughter Faction were excited. To them, the enemy’s advance was nothing more than an opportunity.
The reporting Major God lowered his voice. “But the one leading the assault is not the Wisdom God King. It’s...”
He looked at the Butcher seated on his throne and hesitated.
“Speak. It’s not as if I am going to eat you,” the Butcher said.
“It’s Han Wu. He’s leading a massive skeleton army. They’ve already broken through the first defensive line and reached the central defensive line,” the Major God finally blurted out.
“Impossible. Absolutely impossible!” The Butcher shot to his feet. “Han Wu was assassinated. His head is in the trophy room right now. I personally verified it. It was genuine.”
“But I saw him with my own eyes. Han Wu was commanding his units on the battlefield,” the Major God said quietly.
The Butcher’s expression darkened. He had spent 30 million Divine Essence rewarding Han Wu’s killer, yet this Major God kept insisting that Han Wu was alive. Didn’t that mean he had wasted all that money for nothing? The humiliation only deepened.
The Butcher’s gaze sharpened. He genuinely wanted to kill the man on the spot to vent his anger. However, capable Major Gods were rare, so he forced himself to hold back.
The Butcher finally relented. “Where is he now? I want to see this myself.”
Han Wu was capable of almost anything due to his vast array of powers. After the Major God’s report, the Butcher could no longer determine with certainty whether Han Wu was truly dead. He pulled up the video using his authority and checked the battlefield.
Han Wu was standing in the middle of an endless skeleton horde and commanding the battlefield with total confidence. Countless units crumbled beneath the skeleton horde before they could mount any resistance.
The bold skeleton-wave tactic was unmistakable. The Butcher had seen Han Wu fight with those undead forces multiple times before, so he was certain that the man in the video was Han Wu himself. In other words, he had been deceived, and someone had swindled him out of 30 million Divine Essence.
The Butcher’s eyes turned bloodshot. Someone actually conned me out of 30 million Divine Essence!
Several Major Gods quickly stepped forward to calm him.
“Lord Slaughter, do not let this cloud your judgment. No matter how strong Han Wu is, he’s still not a God King and cannot wield his true Divine Jurisdiction.”
“Eliminating him would be trivial for you. What we must focus on right now is his units. Given the skeleton horde’s scale, it already rivals those undead disasters capable of exterminating entire civilizations. It must be suppressed immediately. Otherwise, no matter how many followers we send out, the undead will kill them with ease.”
The words had the intended effect. The Butcher gradually calmed down. His humiliation could wait. Holding the defensive line came first. The skeleton-wave tactic worked on a compounding principle. The more enemies fell, the larger the horde became. If left unchecked, the Slaughter Faction’s cannon fodder would be wiped out within days.
“Deploy part of the anti-World life form equipment. Fire the Hellfire Shells and burn those skeletons to ashes,” the Butcher ordered.
The Slaughter Faction’s Major Gods nodded in agreement. Hellfire Shells were artillery rounds developed by the Divine Civilization and filled with white phosphorus. They possessed extremely low ignition thresholds and could combust at room temperature, releasing extreme heat capable of reducing bone to cinders. They were extremely effective against the undead.
At his command, the Slaughter Faction’s central defensive line loaded the Hellfire Shells and launched them into the skeleton horde. The shells detonated and scattered white phosphorus over a vast area. The substance clung to the skeletons, and the searing heat turned entire stretches of bone to ash.
The skeletons’ unstoppable advance finally ground to a halt. As more Hellfire Shells rained down, the enormous horde began to shrink.
As the skeletons’ true master, Jing Jing was furious. She had painstakingly raised those skeletons over time, and she could not accept watching them burn to nothing.
However, she had no effective counter to the Hellfire Shells. Neither her soul barrier nor bone shields could withstand them. The moment a Hellfire Shell made contact, everything ignited. No matter how many Divine Points she poured in, she was only delaying the inevitable. She had no way to eliminate the threat the Hellfire Shells posed.
Han Wu quickly noticed the situation. V gathered data on the Hellfire Shells and promptly compiled a report. Although the Hellfire Shells were powerful, several viable countermeasures existed. The report outlined multiple options for Han Wu to choose from.
After reviewing them, he made his selection. He would forge the Bone Dragon, the species with the highest magical resistance and physical attack power among all undead.
