"Let's not talk about anything else."
Coming to his senses, Xu Mufeng realized the atmosphere was too heavy. He shook his head, got off the sofa, took someone's hand in his, and turned back to smile, "Let's go dance together. I've been learning for a long time."
Seeing the child in such a good mood, Gu Xinglan couldn't help but get up as well.
The two of them left the lounge.
The sound of piano playing mingled with a cheerful and lively string quartet, and a long corridor led to a huge bar.
The further you walk into the lobby, the clearer the music becomes, and the more people move around. Waiters walk back and forth, one hand behind their back and the other holding a wine tray. The fruity aroma of champagne fills the air, stirring your heart and lungs, until you are fully inside the lobby.
Even though no one was wearing a mask, in the dim light, you could only smell their perfume and see the neon lights reflected off the huge crystal chandelier.
"Xu Mufeng!"
The light blond child avoided the crowd, his face pale, his brows furrowed, yet he forced a stiff smile.
"Dance with me." Yu Jin stroked his gilded suit and handed over a large bouquet of flowers.
Flowers surrounded the character "黎" (Li), along with a long string of blessings.
The three people could see it clearly.
Soon, Yu Jin was furious again, but she had to carefully put the card back in her pocket and look up at Xu Mufeng: "These flowers are for you. Dance with me."
In the spacious hall, many children were dancing together.
Xu Mufeng clenched his fist, showing no intention of following.
"Your parents?"
Yu Jin frowned.
The room was dark and mottled, so he couldn't make out what the tall man opposite him looked like. He simply said, "Uncle, I'm taking Xu to dance class."
Without giving Xu Mufeng a chance to refuse, Yu Jin pulled him over directly.
Seeing Yu Jin's angry expression, his desire to ask about Li Hetai's whereabouts immediately vanished.
Gu Xinglan patted the child on the shoulder, giving him an encouraging look.
Why is it that everyone else gets to see Li Hetai, but he doesn't?
So he simply sat on the long sofa and watched others dance.
The waiter brought over a tray of drinks several times, including champagne, cocktails, and even spirits, but Gu Xinglan politely declined them all.
"I mixed the drinks myself."
"?" Gu Xinglan looked up.
It was hard to see clearly; only a faint scent of sandalwood perfume wafted in.
"Don't you remember me? I helped you up when you fainted while riding your bike at school last time," the man said affectionately, taking a drink and sitting down next to him.
The closer you are, the more fragrant the agarwood becomes.
"I just wanted to give you a ride, but you refused."
The wine glass was held in mid-air, stopping just before his lips.
The aroma wafted everywhere, and thanks to the skill card, I immediately realized what kind of liquor it was made with.
"Martini, not very strong." The man felt a little embarrassed that the person next to him hadn't taken a drink yet, so he took a glass and placed it between the two of them.
There were couples all around, either passing by or sitting.
"Myself."
After finishing, the man coughed lightly: "If you don't mind, and you think my wine is good, how about we dance together?"
Gu Xinglan couldn't listen to reason. She kept feeling like she saw the figure she was looking for, but every time she looked closely, it wasn't Li Hetai.
"Are you looking for your child?" the man asked, getting straight to the point.
"I've seen him."
Upon hearing this, Gu Xinglan turned her head and saw the other person raise their wine glass.
To demand an answer, one must drink this glass of wine—isn't that a bit too domineering?
"Feel sorry."
Gu Xinglan propped her hand up to shield the wine glass.
As a result, a hand reached out and quickly snatched the wine glass away, and soon there was a "splashing" sound of the wine being poured out.
"Ah, it was an accident."
The child seemed to have dropped the clear liquor into the trash can by accident. The next second, he slipped and dropped the glass, which rolled a few times before coming to rest next to the man's leather shoes.
The carpet on the floor wasn't broken, but the man's expression was strained.
"Young Master Geng, with so many people around, aren't you going to dance?" The tone was muffled, implying that the other person had nothing better to do.
But Geng Yi shook his head: "I'm here to invite you to dance."
As he spoke, those eyes were fixed on him, and the man chuckled softly, "Excuse me, I don't dance with children."
"Uncle Yu, you're still too confident." Geng Yi smiled brightly, turned around, took the hand of the person next to him, and led him straight to the edge of the dance floor.
People came and went, and many glanced at that flaxen color.
Her slender figure and thin back, though her face was obscured, always drew my attention.
The same applies to Geng Yi.
Their eyes were fixed on the face above.
He didn't mention why he abandoned him at the hotel entrance, nor did he say goodbye, and even ignored him. Geng Yi curled his lips and tightened his grip on the other's wrist.
"Big brother, will you teach me to dance? I'm all alone."
He knew nothing about ballroom dancing, let alone dancing with children.
Gu Xinglan was about to shake her head when she was pulled into the group of dancers.
A variety of fragrant breezes kept passing by, making him feel as if he had accidentally wandered into a spider's web, feeling extremely uncomfortable. Gu Xinglan tried to pull the restraints off his wrists and said, "Geng Yi, I can't dance, so let me go first."
The moment they burst in, they even bumped into other dancers.
Gu Xinglan breathed a sigh of relief when her hand finally loosened, but her gaze fell upon the other person's slightly furrowed brows and face full of disappointment.
"Big brother, you always reject me. Do I have to tie you up before you'll listen to me?"
The music in her ears blurred the other person's voice, and when she thought of Xu Mufeng's words, she felt guilty instead.
Gu Xinglan blushed with distress and stammered, "I can't dance."
Seeing this completely, Geng Yi's smile widened as he grabbed the wrist again.
Her wrist was very compliant and did not resist him.
Soon, Geng Yi moved his feet, one in front of the other, dancing with the sneakers.
It's clumsy, but also cute.
In particular, to avoid stepping on him, she gently lifted him up.
As the music gradually quickened, the other person learned extremely quickly, circling around and around like flowing water. Their right foot was guided by an invisible thread, and the distance between their steps was just right, neither too crowded nor too distant.
Geng Yi, who had initially been teasing the dog, was slightly taken aback and began to take it seriously, not wanting to be outdone, and followed in the other's footsteps.
As the music faded and gradually stopped, the lights in the hall began to spread outward from the center, becoming brighter and brighter.
And the center of all vision.
The cheap suit and the out-of-place sneakers couldn't hide the man's brilliance in the slightest.
Geng Yi stared blankly, a slight twitch at the corner of his mouth, then slowly, a genuine smile spread across his face. He suddenly leaped up, wrapped his arms tightly around the other man's neck, and laughed loudly, "Big brother, you lied to me again! You jumped so fast!"
A deafening explosion in my ears, and a blinding white light in front of my eyes.
Gu Xinglan was completely dazed; her mind was a complete mess.
