Chapter 335 Diligent Angelica
Chapter 335 Diligent Angelica
The men returned on horseback, overwhelmed by a surging tide of exhaustion. Their legs felt as heavy as lead, each step requiring tremendous effort. Even simple tasks like washing felt arduous, as if an impossible task. So, they dragged their incredibly heavy steps slowly back to their rooms. As soon as they entered, they collapsed onto their beds, as if all their strength had been drained, falling into a deep sleep without even bothering to cover themselves with blankets.
That night, they slept soundly. Some reminisced about the exhilarating ride across the grasslands, feeling the power and freedom of galloping horses; others were immersed in the boundless beauty, as if they had become part of nature, merging with the heavens and earth. Time slipped away unnoticed, and before they knew it, the next morning arrived. A faint glimmer of dawn appeared on the horizon, and soft light streamed through the windows, gently bathing the room in warmth and brightness.
As usual, Bai Zhi and Bai Yufei were the first couple to wake up. Bai Zhi stretched sleepily, then turned to look at Bai Yufei, who had also just woken up, and said softly, "Brother Fei, I don't want to eat breakfast outside today. It just doesn't taste like home." Bai Yufei smiled, his eyes filled with affection for his wife. He nodded and gently replied, "Okay, then let's make it ourselves. Let's get the flour from the carriage and ask the waiter for some other ingredients to make a hearty breakfast."
The two quickly got up, washed up briefly, and went to the carriage. Bai Yufei skillfully opened the carriage's storage box, took out the bag of flour, while Bai Zhi walked briskly towards the innkeeper's waiter. "Excuse me, sir, do you have any fresh vegetables, eggs, and meat? We'd like to make some breakfast ourselves," Bai Zhi asked with a smile. The waiter quickly replied, "Yes, yes, please wait a moment, sir, I'll get it for you right away." A short while later, the waiter returned with a pile of ingredients. Bai Zhi paid and returned to her lodgings, satisfied.
Back inside, Bai Zhi and Bai Yufei immediately got to their respective tasks, working efficiently and methodically. Bai Yufei stood at the workbench, pouring an appropriate amount of flour into a bowl, then carefully adding water. His movements were gentle and precise; every drop of water seemed meticulously calculated, falling precisely into the flour. Next, he reached into the bowl and began to knead the flour vigorously. With each kneading, the initially loose flour gradually transformed into a smooth dough.
Meanwhile, Bai Zhi was busy at the stove. She first carefully washed the fresh vegetables, then chopped them into small pieces and arranged them neatly in a bowl. Next, she cracked a few eggs into another bowl and quickly stirred them with chopsticks. The yolks and whites quickly blended together under her stirring, forming a bowl of golden egg liquid.
Although they were both busy, they would occasionally exchange a few words, asking each other if they needed any help. This tacit understanding and warm atmosphere permeated the entire room, making everyone feel exceptionally comfortable.
Just then, Fuling and Song Ming also slowly woke up. Fuling slowly opened her eyes, looking around sleepily, as if still immersed in the dream she had just had. She gently rubbed her eyes, gradually clearing her mind.
When Fuling's gaze fell on the window, she was suddenly drawn to the bright sky. The morning sunlight streamed through the window into the room, giving a warm and comfortable feeling. Fuling couldn't help but feel excited. She turned to Song Ming and said, "Zizhan, we couldn't go to the street yesterday because of some things. Today we must have a good look at the morning market in northern Hebei. I heard there are many special things there."
Upon hearing Fuling's words, Song Ming's lips curled into a gentle smile. Looking at Fuling's expectant eyes, he nodded and replied, "Okay, let's get ready quickly."
Without further ado, the two quickly got out of bed and efficiently completed a series of actions, including getting up and washing up. After they were dressed, they looked at each other and could both feel each other's eagerness and excitement.
Without the slightest delay, Fuling and Song Ming eagerly stepped out of the post station, heading towards the morning market with light steps. Along the way, they chatted and laughed, discussing the various interesting things they might see at the market.
The morning market in northern Hebei was bustling with activity, with stalls lining both sides of the street. Shouts and bargaining filled the air. As soon as Fuling and Song Ming entered the market, they were drawn in by the vibrant, lively atmosphere. "Wow, look over there! So much delicious food!" Fuling pulled Song Ming quickly towards a food stall. The stall displayed various local delicacies such as potstickers and pancakes, emitting an enticing aroma. Fuling couldn't resist buying a few potstickers, took a bite, and a satisfied look appeared on her face: "Zizhan, you have to try this! It's absolutely amazing!" Song Ming also tried some and nodded in approval.
As they continued walking, their gaze was drawn to a group of busy fishermen. These fishermen carried heavy loads on their shoulders, the buckets at either end filled with freshly caught fish. The fish swam happily in the buckets, splashing water from time to time, displaying their freshness and vitality.
Fuling's eyes lit up immediately. She exclaimed excitedly, "Wow, these fish look so fresh! Perfect! We can have a delicious fish feast for lunch!" With that, she quickly walked over to a fish stall and began haggling with the vendor. After some intense negotiation, Fuling finally bought several fish at a satisfactory price and happily carried them along as she continued strolling through the morning market.
The morning market not only offered a variety of delicious foods, but also a dazzling array of small toys. Fuling's attention was quickly drawn to a stall selling rattles. The stall was filled with colorful rattles of various shapes, each one looking quite adorable.
Fuling couldn't wait to pick up a rattle drum, gently shook it, and immediately a clear and melodious sound came out. She happily said to Mingge beside her, "Zizhan, look how cute this rattle drum is! I want to buy it!" After saying that, she enthusiastically picked out several other small toys of different styles, ready to take them back and share this joy with everyone.
After strolling around the morning market, Fuling and Song Ming were laden with purchases. They returned to the inn with their bountiful harvest, eager to share the joy and delicious food of the market with everyone.
