Traveling back to ancient times to get rich

Chapter 15 Should I Go Sell Pastries?

Chapter 15 Should I Go Sell Pastries?

"Is it good?" Ye Qingchen asked, looking at Gu Changfeng's satisfied expression. Gu Changfeng said, "Yes, it's delicious! It seems I've really struck gold; my wife is such a good cook!" Seeing his high praise, Ye Qingchen asked, "Then let's go sell them together? It's such a waste to buy that carriage!" Gu Changfeng hadn't expected his wife to be so ambitious; she'd only been here a few days and was already thinking about making money. He said, "Selling snacks is no problem, but it'll be too hard on you!" Ye Qingchen quickly replied, "It's not hard at all. Otherwise, I have nothing to do at home. If you want to go up the mountain to gather herbs, I won't stop you. I can drive the carriage myself, how about it?"

Gu Changfeng was naturally worried about Ye Qingchen selling pastries alone, but he couldn't always be with her and neglect his martial arts practice on the mountain. So he said, "The carriage is faster. How about this, we go together tomorrow when I get back?" Ye Qingchen knew Gu Changfeng was worried about her, so she had no choice but to agree. Actually, Gu Changfeng was quite helpless. Although he wasn't incredibly wealthy, he had naturally accumulated a certain amount of power over the years to prevent people from killing him. He wasn't short of money; he just pretended to be poor to appear like a hermit. Was his little wife so eager to make him rich overnight? Well, it was fine. He couldn't let his wealth show that it was acquired in the past; it was better to let them gradually reveal it through this opportunity.

Night fell, and all was quiet, as if the whole world was shrouded in a mysterious veil of black. The room was utterly still, with only the faint moonlight streaming through the window and onto the bed.

Gu Changfeng gently pulled Ye Qingchen into his arms, feeling her warmth and softness. He didn't remove his clothes, and they fell asleep in each other's arms. Ye Qingchen nestled quietly in Gu Changfeng's embrace; she no longer worried about whether he had problems in certain areas.

At this moment, her mind was filled with all sorts of ideas about how to get rich. These ideas were like a group of mischievous little elves, constantly jumping and dancing in her head. She thought about cultivating wasteland to grow crops, or raising poultry and livestock to increase her income; she also thought about making some handicrafts to sell at the market; and she even thought that if she could learn a unique skill, she might be able to make a fortune…

A series of wonderful ideas flashed through Ye Qingchen's mind, filling her with excitement. However, as time passed, drowsiness gradually crept in, and those get-rich-quick schemes began to fade. Finally, Ye Qingchen could not resist the onslaught of weariness, slowly closed her eyes, and fell into a deep sleep.

As dawn broke the next day, Gu Changfeng got up early and quietly left the room. Ye Qingchen, however, was still sound asleep, seemingly showing no signs of waking. She slept peacefully, completely unaware of Gu Changfeng's departure, as if the whole world was irrelevant to her.

Gu Changfeng went up the mountain alone, and the fresh air and tranquil atmosphere made him feel refreshed. After several days of recuperation, his physical condition had recovered excellently; he even felt that he couldn't have been as healthy as he was now, even without the residual toxins and deficiencies. However, perhaps because he had been slightly irritable lately, he felt a bit hot-tempered, so he decided to take this opportunity to vent his frustrations.

He moved with lightning speed, his fists and feet like the wind, unleashing a series of exquisite kung fu moves in quick succession. Each move and stance contained boundless power and variation, dazzling the eyes. As time passed, his movements became faster and stronger, and sweat gradually soaked through his clothes, but he showed no sign of stopping.

Finally, as the sun hung high in the sky, Gu Changfeng slowly stopped what he was doing. Although he was exhausted, he felt incredibly refreshed. He took a deep breath, feeling the cool breeze on his face, and then turned and walked down the mountain.

He remembered that Ye Qingchen really liked rabbits, so before going down the mountain, he caught a few more and put them in his basket. This time, he didn't collect too many medicinal herbs, just some honeysuckle for the rabbits to eat. Then, he leaped down the mountain, arriving home before the rabbits even had a chance to eat anything.

Ye Qingchen was already preparing a meal. She made some egg pancakes and wontons, guessing that Gu Changfeng would be back soon. Just as she was cooking, Gu Changfeng returned. He tossed the rabbit into its burrow, then sat down and began to eat. Ye Qingchen noticed that Gu Changfeng seemed to be in much better health lately; his muscles appeared to be bulging, and his clothes were slightly stretched. So, she added some space water to the wontons. Gu Changfeng, unaware of this, only found the soup delicious and drank it all. Then, because he was going to town soon, Gu Changfeng told Ye Qingchen he was going to take a bath before leaving the courtyard.

Ye Qingchen was delighted to see the honeysuckle in the basket. Feeling the recent heat, she brewed a large pot of herbal tea with honeysuckle, chrysanthemum, and bamboo leaves, then poured it into two large earthenware pots. She also grabbed a stack of bowls, ready to sell it along with the milk cakes. Just then, Gu Changfeng returned. Looking at her, Ye Qingchen noticed she wasn't as thin as she had been a few days ago. She realized she was also going through puberty, becoming even more charming and beautiful.

Seeing that Ye Qingchen was ready, Gu Changfeng urged, "Hurry up and get in the carriage!" With that, he gently helped Ye Qingchen onto the carriage, then jumped on himself and drove the carriage towards the town.

A gentle breeze caressed their faces along the way, bringing a touch of coolness. Upon arriving in town, the two parked the carriage and set up a stall to sell the pastries Ye Qingchen had made herself. Their exquisite appearance and enticing aroma instantly attracted the attention of many passersby, who gathered around.

"What kind of pastry is this? It smells so good!" someone asked curiously.

"This is a new dessert my wife invented, goat milk cake. It tastes absolutely delicious; you should try it," Gu Changfeng replied with a smile. Ye Qingchen added, "And there's herbal tea, brewed from herbs used by my doctor Gu. It's excellent for relieving summer heat!"

After tasting the food, everyone praised it highly, and in no time, the snacks were sold out, and the herbal tea was also gone. Looking at the empty stall, Gu Changfeng and Ye Qingchen exchanged a smile, their hearts filled with joy. After taking stock, they discovered that they had actually earned three taels of silver. Although this amount of money wasn't much, it was a good start for them, who were trying their hand at business for the first time.

After packing up his stall, Gu Changfeng pondered to himself as he tidied up his things. He thought to himself that Ye Qingchen was so skillful and clever that she would definitely be selling snacks often in the future. It would be perfect if he could have two maids to help out, look after the stall, and keep Ye Qingchen company. Ideally, they would be two girls who knew martial arts. And so, this idea was firmly imprinted in his mind.

Ye Qingchen, meanwhile, shared the same thought. She realized that Gu Changfeng often went hunting and gathering herbs alone in the mountains, inevitably encountering danger or feeling lonely. If she could buy him two servants to keep him company, they could not only help him with some of the work but also chat with him to relieve his boredom. In this way, she wouldn't always have to worry about him.
