Chapter 335 Deserve it
Chapter 335 Deserve it
Consort De recognized the sachet.
That was Princess Changning's sachet; it was the sachet she had laced with something special.
Almost the instant the sachet was thrown over, Consort De smelled a fragrance mixed with the scent of medicine.
Before she could react, several horses that had rushed out of the stable were attracted by the scent of the sachet, stopped abruptly, and charged at her like madmen.
Consort De was so frightened that her legs went weak and she collapsed to the ground, screaming wildly, "Save me! Save me now!"
Her voice was drowned out by the sound of horses' hooves and neighing, and her usual nobility and majesty vanished.
The palace maids brought by Consort De were terrified and fled in all directions, completely disregarding their mistress.
In the chaos, a palace maid accidentally fell and was grazed by the hooves of a startled horse, letting out a painful scream.
The dramatic change happened in the blink of an eye. When the imperial guards rushed over from outside the horse farm, they heard the painful screams of Consort De and several others.
Consort De was kicked hard in the abdomen by a horse's hoof, her face covered in dust, and she suddenly vomited a mouthful of blood.
Yu Wan had already pulled Princess Changning to a safe location. The two of them watched this scene from afar and felt a chill in their hearts.
Princess Changning was terrified, gripping Yu Wan's arm tightly, her lips pale. "Just now... if you hadn't thrown that sachet away in time, Sister Yu, we would both be trampled by horses right now..."
Yu Wan patted her hand and whispered to comfort her, "Princess, don't be afraid, it's alright now."
Princess Changning's voice trembled slightly, "I knew Consort De was no good, but I never expected her to be so vicious."
"However, she probably didn't expect that what she tried to do to others would backfire on her. The scheme she made against us has come back to haunt her!"
"Deserve it!"
At this moment, the imperial guards of the horse farm finally arrived, wielding long poles, attempting to stop the frightened horse.
But the horses seemed to have gone completely mad, and the Imperial Guards had no choice but to kill them.
After a difficult encirclement and suppression, the Imperial Guards finally subdued the several maddened horses.
Consort De lay face up in the dusty horse field, unconscious. Several palace maids, trampled by horses' hooves, lay scattered around her. The imperial guards who rushed over were at a loss for what to do when they saw this scene.
Princess Changning stepped out from the side and coldly ordered, "What are you all standing there for? Go to the Imperial Hospital and find the imperial physician. Consort De and these palace maids have been trampled by horses' hooves, and their injuries must be serious. They cannot be moved casually!"
Princess Changning was favored by Emperor Wenjing, and the imperial guards dared not disobey her.
Upon hearing this, arrangements were immediately made.
They formed groups of several people; some rushed to the Imperial Hospital to summon the imperial physicians, while others formed a circle at the scene to maintain order and prevent any further accidents from happening.
Before long, the head of the Imperial Medical Academy arrived in a hurry with a group of imperial physicians.
The head of the Imperial Medical Academy knelt down beside Consort De, and after examining her, his expression grew increasingly grave.
Seeing this, Princess Changning turned and exchanged a glance with Yu Wan before asking, "Imperial Physician Yu, how is it?"
Yu Yuanzheng turned to Princess Changning and bowed, saying, "Your Highness, Consort De's injuries are extremely serious. She suffered a severe blow to the abdomen, and it is likely that several of her ribs are broken. We must immediately administer acupuncture to stop the bleeding, and then carry her back to the Imperial Hospital for further treatment."
Princess Changning frowned, though she disliked Consort De.
But since lives were at stake, she said in a deep voice, "Then I'll have to trouble Physician Yu."
"We must do everything we can to save her, and we must not let Consort De have any hidden worries."
Dean Yu responded respectfully.
He then directed the Imperial Hospital staff to carry Consort De and the other seriously injured palace servants away.
Once the group of people left, the horse farm became quiet.
Princess Changning glanced back at the horse lying on the ground, its condition still untreated, her face filled with undisguised heartache. "These horses were specially selected fine steeds, and it's such a pity they died like this."
She couldn't help but mutter a curse to herself.
She truly wished that Consort De would also be dead.
Yu Wan also felt sorry for these fine horses.
It's not worth it for that Consort De, that beast, to die.
She reached out and gently patted Princess Changning's shoulder, comforting her, "Princess, things have come to this, don't be too sad."
"It's a pity about these horses, but the most important thing is that you are safe and sound."
As she spoke, Yu Wan looked up at Princess Changning with guilt, "Consort De was probably trying to deal with me this time, and I almost implicated the princess."
Princess Changning quickly waved her hand and said urgently, "Sister Yu, what are you saying! If it weren't for your decisive action, we would be the ones being carried to the Imperial Hospital right now."
"Sister Yu is also a victim. If you want to blame someone, blame Consort De for her viciousness. What does it have to do with you?"
As the two were talking, a young eunuch rushed over.
Princess Changning recognized him as someone from the Empress's side.
The young eunuch stepped forward and bowed: "Your Highness, Her Majesty the Empress was extremely anxious upon hearing of the incident at the horse farm, and specially ordered this old servant to come and fetch you back to the palace."
Princess Changning nodded slightly and turned to look at Yu Wan, "Sister Yu, come back to Mother's with me."
She worried that if she let Sister Yu leave the palace alone, she would be harassed by Consort De's people.
Yu Wan understood what she meant and hesitated for a moment before agreeing.
The two returned to Fengkun Palace together.
Fengkun Palace was solemn and grand. Empress Su, dressed in a bright yellow palace gown, paced back and forth in the palace. When she saw Princess Changning, she immediately rushed forward and hugged her tightly: "Changning, you're finally back. Let your mother see if you're hurt anywhere."
Princess Changning immediately hugged the Empress back with a smile, "Mother, don't worry, I'm fine. It's all thanks to Sister Yu's intelligence that she noticed something was wrong in time."
Empress Su raised her eyes and looked at Yu Wan.
Yu Wan couldn't help but feel a little uneasy.
Princess Changning did not hold a grudge against her, but Empress Su only has Princess Changning as her daughter. If she knew that Princess Changning was almost implicated by her, she might not be able to let it go.
Empress Su stared at Yu Wan for quite some time, and Princess Changning couldn't help but worry, whispering, "Mother, this can't be blamed on..."
Before the words "Sister Yu" could be uttered, Empress Su spoke up, "How did you discover that the sachet was strange?"
Yu Wan composed herself and respectfully replied, "Your Majesty, the horses suddenly went berserk and charged straight at us. I saw Consort De standing to the side unharmed, which aroused my suspicion. I then noticed the sachet on the princess's waist."
"Upon hearing the princess mention that the spices in the sachet were different every day, and that today there was even a medicinal smell, I guessed that there was something wrong with the sachet, so I immediately threw it away."
Empress Su nodded slightly, a hint of approval flashing in her eyes: "You are meticulous and quick-witted. No wonder Changning trusts you so much."
"If it weren't for you today, the consequences would have been unimaginable."
Yu Wan was somewhat surprised.
Did the Empress truly not feel at all that she had implicated Princess Changning?
Seemingly noticing her confusion, Empress Su smiled and said gently, "Consort De is ruthless and loves to use such despicable methods. You are also a victim, so how could I blame you?"
