Chapter 387 Reaching a Consensus
"Your Highness, please rise. This is unacceptable." Shen Li quickly helped the person up.
Li Che didn't say anything, but looked at her expectantly.
"Your subject will do his utmost," Shen Li said, looking at the child who was a head shorter than her.
"With my master's help, great things can be accomplished." Li Che was about to bow again.
Shen Li quickly stopped him, saying, "Your Highness, there's no need for this. This is my duty."
Li Che's eyes showed gratitude, but he made no promises; he simply kept it in his heart.
Shen Li was also relieved that he hadn't made any promises. Gentlemen understand each other's hearts, and Li Che knew that she was truly acting for the country, so he wouldn't offer her wealth or status.
This is out of respect for her.
"Master, what should I do now?" Li Che asked.
"Your Highness should keep a low profile. This situation of one family dominating will soon be broken, and that will be your time to rise to the top." This was just the first plan offered by Shen Li.
"it is good."
The two reached a consensus today, feeling that their relationship had taken a step forward, becoming more like a close teacher-student relationship than a relationship between ruler and subject.
Before leaving, Shen Li said seemingly unintentionally, "Your Highness, Yue'er will be learning to manage accounts at home recently, so she probably won't be able to visit the Duke's Mansion often."
Li Che's originally confident expression faltered for a moment, and a childlike helplessness appeared on his face.
"Yeah...yes, that's true." He nodded with a forced smile, his eyes vacant. "A girl should stay at home."
Although Shen Li was a bit slow on the uptake when it came to romance, Li Che was still a child at the age when he was just beginning to experience love, so it was easy for him to understand her feelings.
She understood and prepared to leave.
"Master Shen," Li Che suddenly called out to her, catching up a few steps from behind.
Shen Li turned her head: "Is there anything else, Your Highness?"
"Please persuade Aunt Shen, Master. The Second Miss doesn't like managing accounts, and there's no need for her to be too proficient in it." Li Che said this without looking at Shen Li, clearly knowing that he had no right to say this.
Shen Li smiled and teased him deliberately: "Your Highness is unaware of a woman's situation. If she doesn't know how to manage accounts after marriage, she won't be a qualified mistress."
"She...she's going to arrange a marriage?" Li Che looked up, his bright eyes revealing a palpable sense of panic.
"It hasn't started yet," Shen Li said, suppressing a laugh.
Li Che slowly let out a sigh of relief, his puffed-out cheeks bulging, and said, "Getting married doesn't necessarily mean you have to learn those things. Even Master doesn't know them, does he?"
"She told you that too?" Shen Li said with a smile, "My husband can do it, but not every man can."
"Is that so?" Li Che asked thoughtfully.
Shen Li nodded.
"I understand." Li Che bowed slightly. "Thank you for your explanation, Master."
Shen Li found his serious expression amusing. She thought of Li Che after he grew up in her previous life. Back then, he treated his relationship with Yue'er the same way, never slacking off in the slightest.
She left Fengxiang Palace, unaware that Li Che had an additional subject to study besides the Four Books and Five Classics, calligraphy, painting, and military strategy: learning to record and calculate income and expenditure, as well as profits and losses.
After leaving Fengxiang Palace, Shen Li did not rush to leave but headed towards the Imperial Garden. The weather was fine today, and she planned to see if there were any new varieties of flowers.
"Miss, we can fly kites in a few days," Yu Die said.
"Want to go out and have some fun?" Shen Li asked.
Yu Die nodded repeatedly, her face full of anticipation.
“Okay, let’s go together this month during our time off. I’m also craving some fresh river fish.”
