Chapter 14 [Shadow]
Chapter 14 [Shadow]
"elder brother......"
It was pitch black all around me... I couldn't see anything...
"elder brother......"
A voice echoed in the void, shrouded in mystery. I felt a pull, an irresistible force leading me to an unknown destination.
"Searching for...the moon..."
A voice echoed in my mind... but the words were blurry...
I could feel her smile... but my eyes couldn't see it...
The whispers grew louder as I tried to piece the puzzle together. A vision flashed before my eyes, shimmering with silver light, bathed in soft moonlight.
I feel it's very important, like a key to unlocking the secrets of my heart, but at the same time, I know nothing about it...
As time went by, my inner turmoil grew stronger... and a suffocating feeling overwhelmed me.
"what!"
I suddenly opened my eyes, startled awake, my heart pounding.
I gasped for breath, trying to shake off the dream that clung to my mind. The darkness of the room enveloped me, and for a moment, I struggled to distinguish reality from the lingering echoes of the dream.
"Ha ha......"
My hand instinctively reached for my chest, feeling my rapidly beating heart, trying to calm myself down.
The illusion of that person's smile and the whispers in the void, those elusive words, lingered in my mind, giving me an inescapable sense of unease.
"What was that dream?" I murmured to myself, my voice barely audible. Fragments of the dream danced in my mind.
Is it her? The person I've been longing for... Even though it was all so vague, I know who she is now... After all, it couldn't be anyone else but her...
"Ok?"
Suddenly, I felt a wriggling motion in my leg, accompanied by a groaning sound.
"what?"
I snapped out of my reverie and began to look around.
My eyes gradually adjusted to the dim light in the room, and as my surroundings became clearer, I found myself lying on a comfortable bed covered with clean white sheets. The room was spacious, and soft sunlight streamed in through the half-drawn curtains, casting gentle rays onto the wooden floor.
Intricate tapestries depicting scenes from the academy's history adorn the walls, while shelves along one wall display various healing potions and medical tools. The aroma of herbs and medicines fills the air, creating a calming and soothing atmosphere.
"This must be the academy's infirmary," I thought, looking around the room.
"hiss....."
Just as I was about to turn to the side, I felt a slight stinging pain in my chest. I looked down and saw that my chest was wrapped in bandages.
This reminds me of the injuries I sustained while fighting the Mist Ghosts.
Soon after, I remembered what had happened before I lost consciousness. The pain has subsided now, but I can't recall what happened after I lost consciousness.
"But I'm still alive, and I'm still here, someone must have found me." I thought to myself, and immediately turned my gaze to the side, where I saw a girl sleeping next to me.
"Who?" At first, I thought it was an unknown person, but the moment I saw the girl, I immediately recognized her.
Sylvie Solaris
After all, she is a well-known character in the game.
As I gazed at Sylvie, memories from the game flooded my mind. In the game, she was a future saint, a gentle and considerate healer with flowing blonde hair and captivating blue eyes. Her character was known for her kindness and helpfulness, and she came from a family from the game's legends. But she was unaware of this at the moment.
Nevertheless, she is also a helpful girl who does her best to assist others. Her kind nature and rare healing abilities led her to the Astor Hunter Academy.
If it were her, then it would explain why I'm here unharmed. I know the wound in my chest is deep, and if it's not treated promptly, I could be in serious danger while unconscious.
In my plan, once I activate the Holy Light Scroll, the teachers and patrols will be drawn in, and the item will break the barrier of the Mist Ghosts, but I still expect to be placed under house arrest for a while.
“But if Sylvie were there, it would make sense even if she hadn’t fully healed me. Her healing skills must not have improved yet,” I thought to myself.
But... when did she arrive at the scene? Did she witness everything that happened? Did she see how I killed the Mist Ghost?
Sylvie stirred slightly in her sleep, her eyelashes fluttering; these questions lingered in my mind.
I watched her for a while, her chest rising and falling gently with her calm breathing. It felt strange to be looking at her here, in the real world, as a living, breathing person, not a fictional character in a game.
Although I saw other characters in the cafeteria and training grounds, this was the first time I had observed a famous person so closely.
Her skin was fair with a delicate sheen, and her blonde hair was loosely draped over her back, giving her a simple and unassuming appearance.
However, upon closer inspection, I noticed signs of her makeup being messy. I saw that several strands of her hair were tangled, revealing a disheveled appearance; it seemed she hadn't had time to pay attention to her appearance at all.
Her clothes were simple, with subtle signs of wear, indicating a frugal lifestyle or financial hardship. This was her casual style. However, her neat and uniform attire suggested that despite her difficulties, she was still trying to maintain a presentable appearance.
Her hands were somewhat rough, but without calluses, indicating that she hadn't done much heavy physical labor, though she might have engaged in some delicate work. This was to be expected, given that she was the healer in the game.
Currently, she certainly doesn't have a weapon. Being a healer doesn't mean she doesn't need to learn how to protect herself. Quite the opposite, because healers are all of the light attribute, making them targets for demons. But right now, she hasn't learned how to protect herself.
But there is still one problem.
"Why is she here?" Although we're classmates, I've never spoken to her. I have so many questions, but I feel like someone is watching me.
I immediately noticed the presence of other people around me, and the faint but persistent feeling of being watched.
“This must be a skill,” I concluded. The feeling was subtle, but I couldn’t see any cameras or recording devices here.
It looks like I'll just have to wait for them to show up on their own. I need to check my data anyway.
As I thought about it, I mentally recalled the status window.

When the panel appeared in front of me, my attention was immediately drawn to the new attributes displayed below.
"A passive attribute has appeared."
This is a special section used to activate special buffs when certain conditions are met. Normally, it's hidden because most people won't possess such special skills unless those conditions are met.
[The Blade of Vengeance]
Looking at this name, a passive description appears.

Passive: Vengeful Blade
Description: Passive. This passive ability allows the user to inflict greater damage on demons driven by a thirst for revenge. With the Vengeance Blade skill, the user's attacks are imbued with more powerful energy, penetrating demonic defenses and dealing greater damage to enemies. This skill embodies the user's determination for revenge against those who have harmed him and those he cares about, transforming his anger into a powerful force.

"A passivity stemming from within myself?"
Given the game's content, it's reasonable for me to possess such a passive skill. After all, Ethan and the other main characters will also acquire similar passive skills later on.
But there was something else that caught my attention.
The reason I risked my life and almost lost my life to that primal demon was because of this new feature.

This is a growth-oriented trait; as time goes on and your mastery increases, you will unlock more and more skills and talents.
In the game, when the Mist Ghost is killed, this trait is passed on to another demon attacking the academy. That demon can use this new trait to blend into the shadows and escape. Afterward, he will appear as a very terrifying demonic successor.
“But that won’t happen,” I murmured. After all, it’s in my hands now.
I really wanted to play with the shadow in my hand, but I knew I was being watched, so I decided to put it aside for the time being.
My physical condition has also improved considerably, which makes me quite gratified.
After closing the status window, I began to observe Sylvie sleeping soundly...
Until the ward door was opened...
