Chapter 39 Heavenly Prison
Chapter 39 Heavenly Prison
The Heavenly Prison of Tiancheng Star is buried deep beneath the Angelic Sanctuary, dark, damp, and deathly silent. The air is filled with the pungent smell of old blood and the decay of divine power. Every ten feet, a squad of fully armed angel warriors patrols, their divine light shimmering, their vigilance extremely tight.
Zhao Chen concealed his presence, moving along the wall like an invisible shadow. His piercing eyes penetrated the heavy iron prison doors and restrictive runes, his gaze sweeping across layers of cells, finally locking onto the deepest, most tightly sealed cell in the Heavenly Prison.
Silently evading three patrol teams, Zhao Chen concealed himself in the darkness and quietly observed.
The walls of the cell were covered with ancient runes that suppressed divine bodies, shimmering with golden light. Two angel commanders at the peak of the second-generation divine bodies stood before the cell door, their auras heavy and unwavering.
Inside the cell, the golden figure that had shaken the entire angel civilization was huddled in a corner.
Keisha Hoffman.
Not long ago, she was captured in a conflict with Hua Ye. The once proud rising star of angels is now covered in blood and wounds, her long golden hair disheveled and clinging to her neck. Even as a prisoner, she still stubbornly holds her head high, her back straight, and there is no trace of submission in her golden eyes, only cold hatred and an undying fighting spirit.
Zhao Chen's gaze fell on her, and his heart skipped a beat.
He didn't act rashly, but waited patiently. A quarter of an hour passed, and a patrol of angels passed by in formation.
Right now.
Zhao Chen shot out from the shadows like a ghost, his fingertips imbued with invisible laws, and pointed directly at the angel on the left. The immobilization spell landed instantly, and the angel froze, his divine body's functions completely imprisoned, like a petrified sculpture.
The angel commander on the right realized something was wrong and was about to turn around and shout when Zhao Chen's second finger fell.
The two peak second-generation divine bodies had no chance to resist and remained frozen in place, dead.
Zhao Chen raised his hand, and the Chaos Bell appeared from the void, its deep chime resonating out. The vast sound waves crashed heavily against the sealing runes, causing the golden light to flash violently several times before shattering and dissipating into countless points of light.
He pushed the door open and entered.
Keisha abruptly raised her eyes, her golden pupils piercing the intruder like sharp blades, her voice hoarse yet cold: "Who are you? Hua Ye's man?"
"My name is Zhao Chen," he said calmly. "I'm here to rescue you."
Keisha's lips curled into a mocking smile. Her injuries aggravated her wounds, causing her to frown slightly. "Save me? This Heavenly City Star Guardian is impregnable. Hua Ye personally ordered me to be guarded. What right do you have to save me? And what right do you have to save me without any reason?"
"I have conditions," Zhao Chen stated frankly.
Keisha's eyes sharpened. She leaned against the wall and slowly rose to her feet. Despite her disheveled appearance, she still exuded natural pride: "Speak."
Zhao Chen looked at her, his tone flat to the point of being almost indifferent: "Be my woman."
Keisha froze, then her golden eyes blazed with fury, and the remaining divine power around her surged: "You're dreaming!"
"Maybe."
"You think you can make me bow down like this?" Keisha gritted her teeth. "Even if I, Keisha, die in the Heavenly Prison, I will not suffer such humiliation!"
Zhao Chen didn't argue with her. He spoke slowly, and with just one sentence, he shattered all her toughness:
"He Xi is still on Tiancheng Star."
Keisha froze, her expression changing drastically in an instant.
She and He Xi had been inseparable since childhood, their bond like sisters. This time, she was kidnapped by Hua Ye's scheme. He Xi fought desperately to break through, but refused to leave, remaining lurking on the outskirts of Tiancheng Star, searching for any opportunity to rescue her.
She was a seemingly gentle girl, but more stubborn than anyone else.
"She knows you're imprisoned here." Zhao Chen's voice was calm, yet every word was piercing. "What do you think she'll do if she finds out you're in jail?"
Keisha's fingers clenched tightly, her nails digging deep into her palms.
She knew all too well that He Xi would rush in regardless of the consequences, even if she knew it was a dead end, she would still break into the prison and rescue her.
Then, they were captured by Hua Ye and perished together.
"Promise me, and I'll take you away, protect you and He Xi, and ensure your safety." Zhao Chen stared directly at her, showing no sign of backing down. "If you don't agree... I'll leave now. You can fend for yourself and wait to see He Xi die for you."
"Are you threatening me?" Keisha's voice trembled with suppressed emotion.
"I'm stating the facts."
Keisha closed her eyes, her chest heaving violently. Pride, anger, resentment, despair... countless emotions surged within her, but in the end, they all succumbed to her worry for He Xi.
She cannot die, and she cannot let He Xi die as a result.
After a long while, she slowly opened her eyes, the flames in her golden pupils extinguished, leaving only a heavy sense of compromise: "You promise, you will definitely protect He Xi's safety?"
"I promise."
What makes you guarantee that?
"With my ability to single-handedly storm the Heavenly Prison, to immobilize a peak second-generation divine body, to break the angel's seal, and even more... to bring you away alive."
Zhao Chen's tone was not boastful, but rather unquestionably certain.
Keisha remained silent for a long moment, then slowly lowered her head, her voice so hoarse it was almost inaudible:
"……good."
Zhao Chen nodded slightly, his face showing neither joy nor sorrow, neither pride nor mockery.
Then let's take the oath.
Keisha hesitated for a moment, glanced at Zhao Chen, and saw that he was not ugly at all, but rather exceptionally handsome. Then she took a deep breath and solemnly swore, word by word—the most solemn and inviolable oath of the angel race.
"I, Keisha Hoffman, hereby declare that I will be your woman. I will love what you love, cherish what you cherish, bear your wounds, and overcome your difficulties. Whether the road ahead is bright or abyss, I will draw my sword for you, fold my wings for you, and never leave you, until eternity."
Once the vow is made, there is no going back.
"Okay, let's go."
Zhao Chen reached out and grasped Keisha's wrist, instantly activating the Earth Element Technique. The hard ground beneath their feet melted away like flowing water, and the two figures sank into the ground, disappearing without a trace.
Before dawn, Zhao Chen and Keisha sneaked onto an interstellar transport ship departing from Tiancheng Star and hid in the crowded and dimly lit cargo hold.
Keisha leaned against the cold bulkhead, closing her eyes to rest. Moonlight streamed in through the porthole, falling on her pale yet stubborn face.
Zhao Chen took out several bottles of healing potions from his storage ring—good stuff he'd seized from the male angels. These healing potions: quickly stop bleeding, repair external wounds—standard equipment for the male angel legion. He handed them to her: "Drink these; they'll heal your divine body's injuries."
Keisha silently accepted the drink and gently took a sip. The taste was bland, but a gentle power flowed through her body as it entered her stomach, easing the intense pain from her wounds.
After a long silence, she suddenly spoke, her voice soft and indifferent: "Zhao Chen..."
"Yes, I'm here."
"Aren't you afraid I'll hate you for the rest of my life by forcing me to agree like this?"
Zhao Chen turned to look at her, his gaze deep: "Afraid."
"Then why did you do it?"
"Because I'm more afraid of not getting you, and more afraid of never having the chance to pressure you like this again."
Keisha froze, her golden eyes trembling slightly.
"I'm not lying to you." Zhao Chen looked out at the boundless starry sea. "He Xi will definitely come to save you."
"I know," Keisha whispered. "That's why I agreed. I can't gamble with her life."
The cargo hold fell silent once again.
This silence was no longer a cold confrontation, but a heavy and calm after fates intertwined.
Suddenly, Keisha slowly sat up straight, her golden eyes regaining their brightness and determination. She looked at Zhao Chen, and only then did she begin to truly ponder: who was this man before her?
In silence, she opened her eyes and looked at Zhao Chen seriously for the first time.
Moonlight slanted in through the porthole and fell on him.
He leaned against the window, casually, one hand resting on his knee, the other hanging at his side. His slender figure was clad in black, the fabric of which looked ordinary, yet it accentuated his features.
Keisha's gaze shifted from him to his face.
Then she paused.
It was an extremely beautiful face.
His features were sharply defined, like a knife's edge, with a clear and crisp jawline, strong yet not rugged. His brow bone was slightly higher than that of an average angel, casting a soft shadow in the moonlight, making his eyes appear exceptionally deep. His nose was straight, and his thin lips were tightly pressed together, giving him a somewhat aloof air when he wasn't smiling, like snow on a mountaintop, making people hesitant to approach him.
But what truly captivated Keisha was his eyes.
Those eyes were gazing out the porthole, lost in thought. Moonlight reflected in his pupils, casting a faint golden hue—not the pure gold of an ordinary angel, but a deeper, more somber dark gold, like the last rays of the sun before it sinks below the horizon, or like amber tempered by fire.
That gold was so unique. It seemed to hold flames within, or perhaps it was solidified light. One glance was enough to make you want to look again.
There was a very faint old mark at the end of his eyebrow, almost invisible, but it added a touch of charm to his perfect face... She thought for a long time before finding a word—"flavor".
It's not the kind of perfect statue displayed in a temple, but rather something with a story, something that makes you want to explore, a dangerous yet alluring quality.
His hair was loose, with glimpses of gold through the pure black strands, appearing and disappearing in the moonlight like flames hidden in the shadows. A few strands fell across his forehead, partially obscuring his golden eyes, making one want to see them more clearly.
Keisha suddenly realized that she had been staring at him for a long time.
She had seen many beautiful angels. The Heavenly Palace was never short of handsome faces; the nobles surrounding Hua Ye were all exquisitely refined. But the man before her was different. His beauty wasn't the delicate, flawless kind; it was a sharp, captivating beauty. Like a knife hidden in its sheath, you knew it was dangerous, yet you still wanted to see it unsheathed.
The cargo hold was quiet, with only the low hum of the spacecraft engines.
Keisha stared at him for a long time, so long that her own heartbeat became a little unsteady.
Zhao Chen suddenly turned his head and met her gaze.
At that instant, the moonlight shone directly into his eyes, and a flame seemed to flicker within his golden pupils.
"What are you looking at?"
Keisha did not look away, meeting his gaze.
"It's up to you."
Zhao Chen suddenly moved.
He approached her, his movements slow but without any hesitation.
Keisha froze, instinctively wanting to retreat, but there was a bulkhead behind her, leaving her nowhere to go.
He braced himself against her sides, leaning forward to trap her between his arms and the bulkhead. Those golden eyes were inches away, reflecting her face.
"you--"
She didn't finish her sentence.
Zhao Chen lowered his head and kissed her.
Keisha's pupils suddenly contracted.
For a moment, her mind went blank.
His lips were warm, carrying the scent of the sun. It wasn't a tentative kiss, nor a gentle one, but a real, assertive kiss.
Keisha froze on the spot, her fingers clenched so tightly that her nails almost dug into her palms.
She tried to push him away, but her hand stopped halfway up.
Because she sensed something else in that kiss besides domineering. It was something complex, like a long-suppressed desire, like the satisfaction of finally getting what you wanted, like... earnestness.
It wasn't the kind of manipulation Hua Ye did, nor the frivolity of those male angels, but something else entirely.
She couldn't explain what it was.
But her heartbeat was erratic.
After an unknown amount of time, Zhao Chen released her.
He remained propped up beside her, looking down at her, a quiet flame burning in his golden eyes.
Keisha stared at him, her breathing erratic, her eyes filled with a complex mix of emotions—anger, shock, confusion, and something she herself was unwilling to admit.
"you--"
She opened her mouth, but didn't know what to say.
Zhao Chen looked at her, a slight smile playing on his lips.
"This is the deposit."
Keisha was stunned.
"What?"
"You promised to be my woman," Zhao Chen said. "This is the deposit."
Keisha stared at him, suddenly unsure whether to be angry or laugh.
She took a deep breath and forced herself to calm down.
"you……"
"Um?"
Keisha looked at him, at those golden eyes, at that face so close to hers, at the man who had just kissed her.
She remained silent for a long time.
Finally, she turned her head away, leaned against the bulkhead, and stopped looking at him.
"madman."
Zhao Chen chuckled softly, released his hand, and sat back in his original seat.
The cargo hold fell silent again.
But this silence was unlike any before.
Keisha kept her eyes closed, her heart still pounding. She felt her cheeks burning—it must be from the anger she'd just felt, definitely not from anything else.
absolute.
The moonlight flowed quietly.
After a long time, Keisha suddenly opened her eyes and looked at Zhao Chen.
Zhao Chen continued to gaze out the porthole, the lines of his profile particularly distinct in the moonlight.
Keisha stared at him for a few seconds, then looked away and closed her eyes again.
This time, she didn't say anything.
The spaceship continued its journey into the depths of space.
Behind them, Tiancheng Star was getting farther and farther away.
