Chapter 250 Having Dinner with Grandpa
Chapter 250 Having Dinner with Grandpa
Tan Xiangchen didn't say anything more and continued to read his book, as if Li Yumei's words hadn't reached his ears at all.
Li Yumei, on the other hand, seemed to be used to this scene. She turned around and went to the side, poured Tan Xiangchen a cup of hot tea, and brought over a plate of fresh fruit, placing it on his desk.
On the other side, Liu Bao and Da Bao slept exceptionally well, and when they woke up it was already afternoon.
The two rubbed their sleepy eyes, washed up quickly, and then went downstairs together.
As soon as they entered the living room, they saw a man wearing a gray sweater and a mask standing there with his back to them.
Da Bao leaned closer to Liu Bao and whispered, "Liu Bao, do you think he might be our grandpa?"
Liu Bao observed carefully, nodded, and said, "That's possible. Let's go down and take a look."
From behind, Tan Xiangchen's tall yet aloof figure gives off a cold and unapproachable feeling.
Just then, Li Yumei came out of the restaurant and immediately saw Liubao and Dabao coming downstairs.
Liu Bao was dressed in all black, looking calm and mysterious; while Da Bao was dressed in warm colors, exuding a lively aura, creating a stark contrast between the two.
Li Yumei smiled brightly, waved to the children, and said warmly, "Liubao, Dabao, come over here and have dinner with Grandpa."
Liu Bao and Da Bao were stunned the moment they saw Li Yu Mei.
They stared at each other, their eyes wide, and the same thought crossed their minds: How come she looks so much like Grandma?
At that moment, Tan Xiangchen was immersed in the world of the book when he suddenly heard a child's voice, which sounded particularly abrupt in the quiet house. He frowned slightly, a sense of curiosity rising in his heart, and slowly turned his head.
At the top of the stairs, he saw two small figures, Da Bao and Liu Bao, standing there cautiously.
Tan Xiangchen's eyes lit up slightly for a moment, and in a daze, he seemed to see Tan Zhengchu when he was young.
Those familiar features, that lively appearance, made his heart skip a beat, and he blurted out, "Zhengchu?"
Seeing this, Li Yumei quickly went to Tan Xiangchen's side and explained softly, "Brother Xiangchen, they are not Zhengchu, but Zhengchu's sons, Dabao and Liubao. I brought them here specifically to keep you company."
Tan Xiangchen frowned, his eyes filled with suspicion, and said coldly, "Yu Mei, why would you be so kind? What exactly is your purpose?"
Upon hearing Tan Xiangchen's words, Da Bao took a step forward and said loudly, "Grandpa, we really are Tan Zhengchu's sons. Sister Li Yumei brought us here."
Liu Bao watched Tan Xiangchen warily, thinking to himself: Although he is wearing a mask, his figure is so upright, he must be very handsome.
Looking at the two little ones in front of him, Tan Xiangchen's eyes welled up with tears, and a smile unconsciously appeared on his lips. He sighed, "I never thought my grandchildren would grow up so big."
Da Bao, with his sharp eyes, immediately noticed Tan Xiangchen's smile and excitedly said to Li Yumei, "Sister, look, Grandpa smiled!"
Li Yumei's eyes reddened with excitement. She had been by Tan Xiangchen's side for so many years and had never seen him smile at her like that before.
Tan Xiangchen's smile vanished, his eyes turning icy again. He looked at Li Yumei and questioned, "Yumei, did you force the children to come? I know you well enough to know the dark side of you."
Liu Bao and Da Bao sensed the concern in Tan Xiangchen's words. They exchanged a glance and secretly made up their minds. They planned to approach Tan Xiangchen, seek his help, and leave this place. However, they were worried that Li Yumei would misunderstand and prevent them from contacting Tan Xiangchen.
Li Yumei maintained her smile and said, "Brother Xiangchen, I'll worry if you don't take your medicine. I sent my grandchildren to keep you company so you can take your medicine properly and get better soon." She paused, then added meaningfully, "If you don't take your medicine, these two children might suffer too."
Tan Xiangchen looked at the two innocent children, his heart filled with pity. He sighed and said, "Okay, I'll take my medicine, but once I'm better, you must let them go back. I'm afraid Zhengchu will be worried, and I don't have any way to contact him." Thinking of all these years, how he had lived like a walking corpse, only able to pass the time by painting and missing his family far away, a bitter feeling welled up in his heart.
Li Yumei nodded quickly and promised, "Brother Xiangchen, as long as you take your medicine on time and get better, I will definitely let the children go back." In fact, she was thinking that she must not let outsiders disturb her and Tan Xiangchen's private time.
Li Yumei turned to the servant and instructed, "Go and bring the water and medicine."
A short while later, the servant brought over the water and medicine.
Li Yumei took the medicine herself, walked slowly to Tan Xiangchen, held it to his lips, and said softly, "Brother Xiangchen, it's time to take your medicine."
Tan Xiangchen looked at the pills in front of him, then at Liu Bao and Da Bao beside him, his eyes filled with helplessness.
For the sake of these two little ones, he gritted his teeth, took the medicine, tilted his head back, and swallowed it.
Then he said, "I'm hungry, let's eat."
When Li Yumei heard Tan Xiangchen say he was hungry, this was the first time she had ever heard him bring up the idea of eating.
A smile unconsciously crept onto her lips as she thought to herself, "Since these two kids came, Brother Xiang Chen has really changed a lot."
She secretly guessed that perhaps seeing his grandson had improved Tan Xiangchen's mood and made him more talkative.
She couldn't help but feel a little regretful; if she had known this would happen, she should have brought the two little ones over sooner.
Actually, Tan Xiangchen was just worried that Da Bao and Liu Bao would go hungry.
Looking at the two little ones, full of energy, he seemed to see Tan Zhengchu as a child, and his eyes unconsciously revealed a lot of love.
Having not seen his family for over twenty years and almost completely cut off from the outside world, his longing for Tan Zhengchu and the others surged like a tidal wave deep within him.
Liu Bao and Da Bao could clearly feel the warmth in Tan Xiangchen's gaze, but they didn't understand why.
Whenever their eyes met Tan Xiangchen's, a sense of concern would inexplicably well up in their hearts.
The group entered the restaurant together, where the table was filled with organic food.
Li Yumei picked up her chopsticks, placed a piece of chicken in Tan Xiangchen's bowl, and said with a smile, "Brother Xiangchen, try this stewed chicken, it tastes delicious."
Tan Xiangchen didn't speak, he just nodded.
He picked up some food from his own bowl and put it into Liu Bao and Da Bao's bowls, saying softly, "Are you hungry? Eat more."
