Chapter 273 Letter Paper
Chapter 273 Letter Paper
Qiao Qingshu was completely immersed in the joy of raising a new life.
Qiao Qingqiao had also come to visit her with her child. The two sisters sat together and talked, feeling a surge of emotions.
When we were young girls in the Qiao family, we would occasionally talk about what it would be like to get married in the future. Whenever these things were mentioned, we would always blush shyly.
Now, when they get together to talk about married life, they all seem much more relaxed and calm.
Qiao Qingqiao held the child in her arms and comforted him, smiling as she spoke.
"Sister, now that you've had a baby, doesn't it feel very different?"
Qiao Qingshu teased her son on the crib, saying without looking up,
"That's right. Before, we were content as long as we were fed and watered. Now, the whole household has to put this ancestor first."
Qiao Qing smiled.
"This is my sister and brother-in-law's first child, so naturally they cherish and treasure it. They'll probably be more comfortable with their second and third children in the future."
Qiao Qingshu turned her head and met Qiao Qingqiao's eyes. The two of them chuckled and smiled at each other.
Just then, a maidservant came to report that Princess Yongxian and Princess Yonglin had arrived.
They hurriedly called for someone to come in.
Yongxian came from the palace, and Yonglin came from the Bai family. Their sedan chairs happened to meet at the entrance of the alley, so they came together.
Yongxian was born to the Empress, and Yonglin was born to Consort Xiande. In earlier years, the two princesses did not have a close relationship and even looked down on each other.
But now, after experiencing so much, the two princesses' mindsets have undergone tremendous changes.
When the two met, they no longer ostracized and attacked each other as before, but instead showed more consideration and affection for one another.
"Sister, how have you been in the palace lately?"
"Everything is fine. Is your sister living happily with her husband's family?"
"Everything is fine, thank you for your concern, sister."
The two realized that they had both come to see Qiao Qingshu, so they came together.
Qiao Qingshu, dressed in casual clothes, was about to rise to pay her respects when Princess Yongxian helped her up.
"You've just finished your postpartum confinement period, so it's not appropriate for you to perform formalities. We're all family, so there's no need to be so polite."
He then helped Qiao Qingshu to sit on the edge of the bed and spoke up.
"Are you feeling better? I've heard that new mothers need to rest more."
Qiao Qingshu smiled.
"These days he probably hasn't even walked a few steps, being pampered with good food and drink every day, he's very comfortable."
Yonglin and Yongxian sat side by side, chatting with Qiao Qingshu, eating tea and drinking snacks, and time passed quickly.
Before leaving, Qiao Qingshu asked Princess Yongxian to stay for a while.
Only Princess Yongxian and Qiao Qingshu remained in the room.
Qiao Qingshu got straight to the point.
"Princess, what are your plans for the future?"
Yongxian was taken aback; she hadn't heard such concern in a very, very long time.
She swallowed hard, wanting to answer, but found her mind blank.
Since her divorce from Xiao Chengyan, and the subsequent departures of her mother and brother, she has been living a listless and chaotic life.
She knew what outsiders said about her. Even in the palace, she had heard a lot of gossip. They said she was immoral, unchaste, and licentious. In short, they said all sorts of things.
She seemed completely indifferent to all of this, as if she had lost the courage and motivation to start a new life.
She's like someone sinking deeper and deeper into a quagmire, until she's swallowed up.
Now, someone has come to ask her what her plans are.
She couldn't help but give a bitter smile, and said dejectedly,
"Just drift along, waiting to die."
Qiao Qingshu stepped forward, took her hand, and said earnestly,
"Princess, why not live your life again?"
Yongxian was taken aback, a glint of light flashed in her eyes for a moment, then dimmed again.
"Ha, easy for you to say."
Qiao Qingshu, however, gripped her hand tightly and said,
"The past is too painful to forget, so it's better to leave this place."
Yongxian's eyes flashed. Years ago, her father had granted her a fiefdom, but she was reluctant to leave her father and mother, so she had been living in the palace ever since.
After getting married, she completely forgot about that fiefdom. Only now, after Qiao Qingshu mentioned it, did she suddenly remember it.
Qiao Qingshu smiled.
“I know that Princess Yongxian loves to tend to flowers and plants. Your fief is in Jiangnan. Why not leave here and live a new life in the water towns of Jiangnan?”
Jiangnan?
When Yongxian was ten years old, she accompanied her father, the emperor, on a private tour to the south. At such a young age, she witnessed the enchanting beauty of the Jiangnan water towns for the first time, and her heart was filled with boundless joy.
She pestered her father, the emperor, to build her princess's residence in Jiangnan. At that time, the emperor favored Yongxian and naturally agreed. Four years later, the princess's residence was indeed built in the Jiangnan water town.
Yongxian only visited once on her birthday, and she was very happy, but she didn't want to live there alone at that time.
Because her beloved father and mother were in the capital, how could she bear to leave them?
Now that no one is reluctant to part with her, it seems she can leave decisively.
Touched, she looked up at Qiao Qingshu thoughtfully. Qiao Qingshu then said...
"The situation is still uncertain, and there will definitely be turmoil in the palace. It is not safe and peaceful. Princess, you might as well go to Jiangnan and live a leisurely and wealthy life."
These words truly moved Yongxian, and she was genuinely touched.
After returning to the palace, she informed her father of her departure. The old emperor was eager for her to leave, so he waved his hand and told her to set off as soon as possible.
And so, Princess Yongxian left the capital under the pretext of recuperating from illness and went to her princess residence in Jiangnan.
Qiao Qingshu went to see him off that day.
Princess Yongxian had already removed her palace attire and was dressed in a particularly simple manner.
She stood on the outskirts of the capital, grasped Qiao Qingshu's hand, and said with a moved expression,
"I've been in the capital for several years, and I never thought I'd have to leave now. Thank you for coming to see me off."
Qiao Qingshu smiled faintly.
“Princess, this is what I should do.”
Yongxian took a piece of paper out of her bosom and stuffed it into Qiao Qingshu's arms.
Qiao Qingshu wanted to open it and take a look, but Princess Yongxian stopped her.
"Let's go back and check it out."
Stopping her movements, Qiao Qingshu smiled and tucked the letter into her bosom.
When Yongxian left, she did so very simply. Her servants only took two carts, plus a cart of luggage. This was not the behavior of a princess at all.
It's hard to believe that Yongxian used to live such an extravagant and wasteful life, but now she's so frugal, which is quite remarkable.
Seeing the dust kicked up by the carriage, Qiao Qingshu waved goodbye to Yongxian.
Once home, she momentarily forgot about the letter she had been holding.
Just as I was getting ready for bed, the paper fell out of my pocket.
It was Xiao Zhijie who found it; a piece of paper floated out when he was helping Qiao Qingshu hang up her clothes.
He didn't unfold it to look at it, but simply handed it to Qiao Qingshu and said,
“Madam, this is what fell out of your clothes.”
Qiao Qingshu's drowsy eyes snapped open. Yes, there was still this piece of paper she hadn't looked at.
She got up, walked to the desk, sat down, and slowly opened the paper.
This sight sent a chill down my spine.
